The Rat is back !

I thought i got rid of all the rats but they are back .
I have this old bbq out the back , i've been putting food scraps in it at night , by morn all gone
there is rat poop inside the bbq , You see in 1 pic they chewed through a duck bone.
Anyway i made this home made trap , it's a bucket with 1 hole at each end and wire threaded through middle ,
with a bottle on the wire that spins and peanut butter spread all over for bait .
The plan is the rat walks up the wood and jumps onto bottle that spins and rat ends up in the bucket with 4" of water in the bottom (drowned rat)
It's been 2 nights and no rat has taken the bait , yet they have taken food out of the bbq .
Anyone got any better ideas regarding this trap setup ?
I could buy a rat trap , put it in the bbq and bang dead ratus . There's no fun or skill in that though !
What's your ideas people ?

Rats are pretty smart.
My old neighbor used to have them under his house and they would get into my garden.
I used those big ol traps (I know you don't want to do that) and chained them to the garden fence
after they ran off with a few traps.
You may want to take the runway from the trap and just push it close to the wall.
A rat can climb right up the wall and into the bucket.

Anyway, what cabinet is to the left of the trap?

Get on the camo, camp out at night, and blast the fuckers.
That's last resort dude , but i'm ready for action if that's what it takes .
I have camo , torches , munchies , pipe , bowl , machete , pocket nife , needle , lighter , drink
matches , cigs , camera , dog , laser pointer , chop sticks , lighter fluid , and good luck
If i do this i will take happy snaps of operation kill rat !!!

To the left of the trap is the cabnet under the bbq

I get moles in my yard. They sale .45 caliber bullets that r like shotgun shells. Instead of a slug theres like a hundred tiny bb's in the shell. Not acurate from a distance but awesome for shooting critters in the yard. Moles be damned!

Get a kitty
If you do it has to be a female. I got my male rescue cat years ago due to mice and he only caught one whereas we caught 6 in a trap. I'm sure the females make better hunters.

I had a pet Pedigree rat when I was young and it can definitely jump out of that box.

Here's why:- I had an open aquarium tank with a hamster in it. Rats got in or a rat, jumped into the glass tank and took it. There was blood around a crevice in the skirting board. So a rat jumped out of the tank with a dead hamster in its mouth.

You've got a jack Russell. !! That's my best advice. Speak to Roxy about her history and use around the house.
That's all Roxy wants to do , she has seen it but it runs from bbq to fence in like 2 seconds .
The rat aint gunna come out with roxy in the yard .
What i have been doing is putting food in the bbq like i said b4 , and at around 2am i sneak through the back door with a torch
and Roxy , she goes running straight up to the bbq and starts sniffing around ,i then lift the lid and the rat flies straight out the back of bbq
runs across the small pavment straight under the fence . It's got holes everywhere under the fence.
Roxy got right up it's ass 1 time , but never got it.

Is not putting food scraps in the grill out of the question ? I mean, if you hang a bird feeder you`ll get birds,....Right ?

I have a neat toy that I use to dispatch any vermin that decide to take up residence in my barn or shop. I have an old gen.1 night vision scope ( good to about 45yds) that I can slap on it for close quarter night sniping.
4x16x42 scope, green laser and bipod and it weighs about 8.7 lbs. fully assembled.

.22 cal, totally suppressed, power adjustable to over 1500fps and deadly accurate out to 100 yds. Yea, bb guns have grown up a bit.

The only good rat, is a dead rat.

Had a small family of mice living rent free here for awhile... made the same device you did Clint.. but I used a 50 gal barrel.. worked great.. used peanut butter and caught the 1st one within about 10 mins.. so I go over to look inside the 50 gal and see him at the bottom (did not use water in mine..was gonna be a humane trap) so I look in and the mouse freaks and starts running around the barrel and makes it to the top of the barrel too.. he is exhausted tho and he's looking at me I'm looking back thinking WTF.. this mouse just ran around the inside of the barrel to make it to the top no way would a 5 gal bucket worked.. I tap the barrel and he falls back in.. relocated a few this way.. but since we got Gretchen the mouse pop has fallen.. she's gotten 2 so far..
