I've ran through a few. I have a handheld 60-100x zoom microscope I bought on amazon, SUCKS and a regular hand held magnifying glass that doesn't zoom in enough to check. What have y'all used?? I'm a week or so from chop so I need to order one asap. :leaf:

Ya the cheap ones are a kinda crappy lol. I use one from ebay, its a 60x loupe not great either. I also bought one from hobby store for 20 still sucks but better it 60-100 also. By a cheap actual microscope from Walmart!

Got a pair of binoculars? If so, use them backwards in conjuction with a light source. Better than any 5-10$ scope by far.

I got one of those 420 scopes that just blew. I got a cheaper 30-60X loupe and it was better. But still not as good as binoculars. Kinda ghetto I know but it fuckin' works great.

I use the 12.99 scope from Radioshack and it is great.

I have jeweler's loupes as well but I can't use them very well, I guess I move too much.

30x Jewelers loupe here also. works pretty good in my opinion.I also have the lens out of a lazer pointer that I put over the lens of my phone camera that works awesome! I will open a 50x-500x usb microscope Christmas morning and I hope it does not bring teh suck!!

I use a 3 inch magnifying glass just to see the plant...

No need to play Sherlock Holmes bro just wait till almost all hairs are brown or gone. By then the colas should need support to stay off the floor.

One thing we are not factoring in is "old man eyes". You whippersnapppers will meet your ultimate fate. Guaranteed. Most certainly misspelled. Put some money aside for reading glasses. Actually I enjoy coaching youngsters into mid-age, it rubs my crotch raw, yawza! Don't blame me for having to try some fun.

I have some little toys, ones a 30x and the other is a led illuminated 160x-200x which is a bit excessive but cool for looking at ants and shit237_0815.jpg

I have several, they are only $4 delivered

This is what you really need to look at the tricome heads to see if they are clear/cloudy/amber
50-500x for $28
Some time has passed but this is still a great option, and is currently $12.73. It can be found on ebay by searching for 2MP "1000X8 LED USB 2.0 Digital Microscope Endoscope Zoom Camera Magnifier+Stand".

I use a "40X" that's probably closer to 20X. Extremely handy and cheap. I have 2 scopes and the 100X I keep to let others try to use.

"See? Can you see the trichs?" with the mofo shaking so bad you can't see shit.
The last bit, it's why I have the advantage with a never ending supply of Valium, I find that necessary when using the macro lens on the phone as I try to hold the phone to get a clear shot, hold the bud steady, focus, check the shot and take it when using only two hands.

Day to day stuff is a cheap 60x with lights, not the best but I can see the trichs and that's what's necessary.

I've had best luck with a 30X illuminated magnifier. 60X is more magnification than you need and a bitch to dial in.

Here's a couple tips from an OG --

1. Cut a small piece of sugar leaf and place it on the back of your left hand (assuming you are right-handed).
2. Place the 30X so that the leaf is in the lens BUT leave the other side of the 'scope resting on your hand.
3. Tilt the 'scope back and forth until you get the clearest view.
4. Then use your right hand to dial the little adjustment wheel on the 'scope. Remember to leave one end of the 'scope resting on your hand for stability.

What your tris look like depends a lot on the background you are using. Took me a while to realize that all my tris looked milky because I was placing the leaf on a sheet of white paper. I found that using my hand as background gave me a more accurate view.

After a while you won't need a 'scope as you learn to read bud maturity other ways. For instance, once you learn a particular strain you will notice that pistil coloration roughly follows tri coloration. With my indicas I know that when the pistils are 3/4 colored the tris will be about 50% milky. When you have really been around a while you will be able to judge bud maturity just by gently squeezing a bud. Until then a 30X hand-held illuminated 'scope gets my vote.

Good luck, BigSteve.

I like the loupes. I have had two pocket microscopes and they were awful to use. The 30/60 loupe does the trick for me and at 60 the ambers show up like caramel
