Helping the Homeless

Every year I go downtown and find some older homeless folks. They have to be over 50 and clearly not a junkie or drunk. It takes a week or two sometimes to find the right person. I bring them home for the Winter and let them have a room as long as they do their chores. They keep the place clean, take out the trash, wash my car (too cold out for me to do it!), do my laundry, iron, fold my clothes, make food, watch my grow at night, make my drinks, rub my feet, clean the hottub, keep the chemicals right, sometimes paint a room, and usually I have them doing some piece count job I find online. If they fail at anything or refuse to do what I say, they are back out on the street. I don't care how they get back to their natural habitat, just ga ga ga goodbye! Anyone else do charity like this during the Winter/holidays?

I have found that the younger ones will steal and disappear. When a 30 something pulled a knife on me and demanded money, I knew was done with the young ones.

The older ones won't usually run, or steal. They also seem to like being maids/butlers, if you work those words into the interview.

I just picked up a matched pair of 17 year old homeless girls from the St Francis shelter - I'm hoping at least one of them knows how to make pancakes in the morning.

Sounds a bit like indentured servitude.

When I give to the homeless I don't expect them to return it. In other words, I don't give to receive. (no dirty jokes please )

All is well that ends well. I suppose none have overstayed their welcome and required eviction. Totally a bad idea imho. Most homeless are that way for s reason, often mental illness. If I want to help I can donate time or money but they aint coming home with me.

Sounds like some warm homeless people sleeping without the fear of being assaulted, enjoying living in a house again, living like a normal person. I was homeless once, a hot shower daily is like one of your senses; you don't know how great it is until it is gone.

Yeah, for sure. I've had a few mental cases. I just call the police and report them as a break in trespasser.

My parents sent me away to the Idaho desert from december to the end of january when I was 14, obviously there were no showers, and after freezing for two months a hot shower was the biggest dopameine rush my brain has ever experienced.

I would look for those who have elaborate piercings. It's nice to have some pre-made spot to attach the creative restraints while they "break in". And their tolerance for the natural consequences of positive behavioral work is established. They might even groove on the lower voltages.

I worked with YCC (Youth Conservation Corps) in the very early 70's clearing canoe trails in Everglades Ntl Park for a couple of months - July & Aug.
100+ daily with mosquitoes that could almost literally carry you away.
What a way to spend a summer.
