Ready to harvest? First grow

Growing white ice strain on soil under 250w CFCs. Just starting the 6th week of flowering, about 42 days. About 50% of pistils have turned brown. Unfortunately don't have a microscope but trichromes seem to be mostly clear with a magnified glass.
thinking of waiting a few more days until most of the pistils are brown, in order to harvest. Do you think I need more?
Fan leaves are turning yellow cause I have stared giving it just plain water without nutes, it seems hungry but if I harvest in 3 days, there is no need to feed it.

It takes a plant 2 - 2.5 months (generally) in flower before harvest. Also you have a 14 day harvest window. Good Harvesting!!! You want to see milky and amber no clear. 85%milky -10%amber - 5% clear (you will always have some clear):dunce:

are you from down under? looks nearly done to me, your soil ran out of charge so I wouldn't expect them to do much more growing. chop if you want

Is it common for areas of a plant to be ready for harvest before others? My lower buds are further along than the tops.

It is acceptable practice to NOT take the entire plant at once, rather take a few buds here and there which will give you different THC levels. figure out which buzz you like the best, then grow subsequent plants to that stage of maturity. Or don't, whatever makes you happy.

Dude... Wait until your hairs have receded back into the bud... Hairs turning brown does not make your plant done...
If you don't have a "LOOP" and are seeing magnified clear sparkles then it's too soon !
The clear you see are tric's that contain no THC, and are immature. Wait, until all [or most] hairs recede, and calyxes will plump up and look like they are going to pop out a seed...
And of course look for mostly milky tric's... Remember amber/tea colored tric's are degraded, so at first sign of amber trics start checking your plant more carefully...
You might have weeks yet....
Good Luck!

Just so you know.... It is impossible to get Zero % Clear Trics... On a healthy plant....
On a healthy plant, you'll get clear until the day you harvest....
That's why most say 5% clear...

Personally 10% Amber is too high a %.... You at that point have lost 10% of your bud to degrade... Not good...

thanks for your help. i guess i have to check everyday and it seems that it might need a week or 2 yet fro harvesting. according to the supplier it needs 45-55 days and my plant is around 42 days.

what about nute feed. many say that you shouldn't add fertilizers on the last couple of weeks before harvest. my plant looks hungry and leaves turn yellow. do you think it can hold for another week or so with plain water. I have been giving it biobizz products and not alot since i had some issues with nute

show me one good grower actually harvests based on trichome colour, anybody?

the plant has no nutrients left so it cannot grow, keeping it alive is a wasted excercise in my opinion.

Thanks for the input, green like money. And thanks for the other harvest tips. I am 56 days since light change, my plants are of unknown origin, I just cloned a buddy's plants. The higher, larger colas of 4 plants are slower to show trichomes and hairs than the lower, smaller buds. 2 plants I believe are indica. They are closer than the other 4. Hairs are turning brown, but they have not receited yet. I will keep an eye on the trichomes for a few more days.

Thanks for the feedback. I will keep it for a couple of weeks more. Maybe give it some nutes these week, so that next week will be plain water for better taste

I would go at least another week.i would feed them plain water with molasses to bring out the flavors and smells .it always seems to give the plants that extra boost at the end of flower.

Thanks bluesdad. Just fed it with a small amount of molasses yesterday, will keep it with plain water for a week and hopefully harvest time afterwards. Just hard to tell without a microscope, but I will be keeping an eye with the magnified glass I've got!

technically you can cut em down now. I've done it. and I've waited. did my customers discern a difference? nope. could I tell in a blind smoke test? nope. treat yourself harvest a bud or two and start the dry/cure:)

Yeah, I cut a small bud last week as a sample, dried it and smoked it but it wasn't very potent. Think I will leave them for another 4-5 days and then harvest. I think luckybleu is right. It probably needs more time with cfls
