has anyone tryed growing khat outside of it's native ranges ??

I have a few seeds I am likely going to try next year

Their does not seem to be a lot of info about growing it , from what I can find, It cant take frosts but is otherwise hardy once established , grows 1-5 meters in height , and takes atleast 3-5 years untill harvest is ready

Treat it like you would a fruit tree and you will be fine. You can pick leaves off it in the first year if you want, just don't defoliate it out of eagerness LOL.

I have read that the first few years of growth do not produce the "desired" alkaloids in suffecent quanitys but a secondary alkaloid that will make you sick -- Thats what I have read atleast

I have also read that US grown plants never get any potency ?? I have to suspect their is some truth to this, otherwise it would be better known hear and grown commonly
Khat = great stuff

I had two plants a foot and a half each. A Red and Green khat.

They were coming alone beautifully, till my dog used them as chew toys. :(

Not a happy camper that day.

I've got some khat seeds.. I tried to start 5 outside with little effort... no dice.
I have about 10 more that i am going to baby inside.

Khat is prbly my favorite high out there. Don't do much these days other than smoke herb..but khat is fantastic
I got to know it living in Minneapolis. Large E African populations.. NY, Twin cities, etc..

the stuff from close to the sources is way better than anything hear in the US, the 2 main actives degrade within 2-3 days of being picked

But the 'old' stuff is still pretty good when avaible
