If you can't find plain perlite (which farm supply places sell in bulk at a fraction the cost of MG), then I would soak the hell out of the perlite first to dissolve away the nutes.

Peat moss is fine.

Yeah it's fine. Rinse the perlite first and just to let you know, mg perlite is really fine.
