isn't it rather obvious that americans and the human race in general have lost the will for courage? courage is now measured by a man's willingness subject himself to ridicule, as if embarrassment were the most we had to fear. there is no revolt unless some immediate profit can be gained and profit is considered only in the most materialistic forms. comfort is praised above all else, sacrifice is sneered at and true change is seen as counterproductive and dangerous. our slow, steady march toward mediocrity accelerates and is seen as being for the good of society. excellence is to be avoided in an attempt to level the playing field and a dull, plodding pace is set as the pinnacle of human achievement. we have devolved from hunters, both alone and in packs, to herd animals, from predator to prey.
our greatest strengths have been diluted. love has become transitory and hatred is illegal unless institutionalized, charity is a matter for regulation and self-interest is a sin. the weak are encouraged to multiply and the strong are penalized for their success, this is the religion of mediocrity.
