should i fim or top? i'm doing a vert. cylindrical scrog. i want to limit the stress on the plant. so is it worth it? i have topped before but never fimed. i have three plants ready to go.
I'm using the FIM technique at the moment with my LSTd plants. However, I must also trim down in order that the plant will equally feed all cola sites. I'll try to find my thread where antipythium gave quite the extensive answer on how LST affects the plant and budding sites.should i fim or top? i'm doing a vert. cylindrical scrog. i want to limit the stress on the plant. so is it worth it? i have topped before but never fimed. i have three plants ready to go.
Not exactly. And this is not quite true with other plants, so why would it be so with marijuana? Often judicious pruning actually spurs faster growth, I've seen it with some of my houseplants, many outside garden plants, and some vegetables. Personally, I want to gain the greatest yield I can, so I'm taking the time to FIM and LST. I've got enough plants that I have been able to experiment with just the FIMing. Randomly select, FIM half. What I saw was that over 80% of the FIMd plants showed markedly better growth two weeks after FIMing, and I still see the same thing. To that end, I ultimately decided all will be FIMd.well i know that every time you cut a plant it takes time out from growing to repair itself. so is it worth it to cut it. i don't need massive plants i just want to do what is easy on them but productive to me.
Hold on.. lemme check my grow notes and calendar... ok?when is the right time? 5 nodes?
Yeah, I think that looks to be it. I didn't note number of nodes when I began LST. Guess I know for next time!when is the right time? 5 nodes?
Ok, maybe this is related to strain/variety. The plants that I've done this with are an unidentified bag seed, but I'm pretty sure they're an Indica strain. What are you growing, and under what conditions?I topped one of my plants and FIM'ed another one. The topped one is doing much better than the FIM one. The FIM took way longer to heal probably 5 days before the new shoots started growing. It made 5 tops, and the very top one is still only like 2 inches tall and its been close to 3 weeks but the other 4 are now 3 nodes and 5 inches tall. Topped one is like 5 nodes and 9 inches.
Personally I like plain old topping. LST is probably the best for limited space and the new branches recieve good light.
