Trimming Options and What To Do With Defective Seedling

I have two viable Maui Waui seedlings growing in Formula 707. They sit under two 65W 6500K photo CFL's at night I could add another 85W 6500K CFL. During the day they sit in intense sunlight in a window. What are my trimming options with the Bobbsey Twins. They are in one gallon containers and I want to super crop them but I don't know if I can do it now or wait till they are transplanted. Also, a third plant is genetically defective but it is starting to look healthier every day. What would you feed the healthy plants? I have full quarts of Botanicare CNS17 Grow 3-1-2 and Liquid Karma (not sure what the numbers mean 0.1-0.1-0.5) dated Nov 2011. Also, not sure how to "top" a plant but can you use the top you cut as a clone? The sex of these plants is unknown - too early. Also, I have not checked the pH. Have a great and productive day!
:peace:

personally, i wouldn't trim a thing..
i also wouldn't super crop them as of yet either, but now would be a good time to start some lst, low stress training, where you tie them down to keep them short and redistribute growth auxins..

look at what ever it recommends on the bottle of the botanicare stuff, and use about 1/4 of what it says.. slowly work you way up every 2 weeks or so by another quarter, and stop at first signs of nute burn and back them off some and keep it there imo..

I'd let em get bigger before topping them.
You could start feeding with your Botanicare 3-1-2 at quarter strength and see how they like it.
When you top a plant you only take off the smallest piece of growing shoot. You don't just cut the top off the plant, though I suppose you could if you wanted.

some people do top off a large part of there plant but that's typically because they want not only to top there plant but to get a nice sized clone as well. Personaly I like top early in the grow just above the third or 4th node, that way I make sure I have a nice dense plant that can support itself.
Right now to me that looks like its really stetched and my recommendation would be to use LST to bend that stem over and try and mold it into a bush over time, super cropping in a few weeks rather then toping it now.

Too late Nice Ol Bud. I've fed them 2ml per quart and tied all three down and they are under two 65W 6500K CFL's and a 125W 2700K CFL. I'll post the pictures tomorrow if they make it.

Oh well... better luck next time I suppose! :D
JK :D Good luck!
I just had to take a peek at them in the closet. Holy cow! Even the deformed seedling (Freak-a-Zoid) is popping up toward the light. About eight hours from now I'm wondering what they will look like. It looks good now. Will post pictures of the LST tied-down seedling tomorrow. Prosper!

As promised the LST pictures the morning after. The plants looked droopy the night before. Today it looks like they are doing well and are in window sunlight now. They were fed 2mL/quart of the Grow 3-1-2 until water trickled out the bottom of the one gallon pots. Did I lay them down enough and do you see anything else I should do? Thanks. Peace.

The plant in The 3rd pic is bent too much...at that age you should only be in the early leaning stages...that looks like a 90 degree angle...IMO

Maybe I will remove that first tie-tie to give it more freedom. They are doing well in the sun right now. That plant in the third pic had a stiffer, wood-like stem. The other plant's stem was more plyable. The pots are kind of small and the plants were kind of tall so it was hard to bring them down. Is the goal to make them sprout again from the branches as well as redistributing growth auxins? Don't know what will happen now except they might grow up higher again. Here is a picture take a few minutes ago in bright sun. Thanks Walter9999.
