Just wondering if anyone knows how to access the menu of a 2003 VW Golf car radio?
It's the one with the minidisc player, I just bought it and it's an import from Japan, the problem is that FM bandwidth for Japan and Europe is different so I can only pick up one FM station, I don't know what make the stereo is, it doesn't say.
I seen on youtube that the bandwidth can be changed on BMW imports so hopefully the VW's have the same feature.
I know a bandwidth expander can be fitted but I don't have the keycode and would prefer if at all possible not to have to remove it.
Any advice, help and links etc would be greatly appreciated.CAM00434.jpg

you may have to get the actual model number of the unit off the chassis which unfortunately may have to be removed to see it. JA versions may have different instructions than USA.

I have a lot of googling done already and can't find what I'm looking for, I know I can get the code if I really need it but that won't help change the bandwidth.
Japanese FM bandwidth ranges from 76mhz to 90mhz whereas here it goes from 88.8mhz to 108mhz.

out of warranty manufacture radios are usually sent to repair stations. if you can locate one of these stations, perhaps they could advise?

have you called the local VW dealership service department to inquire?..you can't be the only person this has happened to..

Volkwagen Ireland advised me to go to the stealership who will charge an absolute fortune to do something I can do myself if I have the info I need.
The radio isn't broken it just needs the bandwidth modified to European settings.

so you think it's simply a matter of entering a code into the radio vs. having to physically modify something on the radio chassis?

No not a code but perhaps there is a button or combination of buttons to be pressed that brings up a menu like on this youtube vid.

Yeah, joined the UK one specifally and after a lot of searching didn't find anything, I posted the question and so far have received no replies.
Many of the owners in the club have their cars pimped and usually the first thing to go is the factory fitted radio.

Sure why not, the dealerships here won't tell me anything and want the car brought in so they can charge for looking at it.
