I found this chart to determine what kind of light these 42 watt cfls are puttin out.

Color TemperatureIn scientific terms, Kelvin temperature is a measure of the color of a light source relative to a black body at a particular temperature expressed in degrees Kelvin (°K).

In simpler terms, it is the degree of warmth or coolness of a light source, not with regards to the physical temperature, rather to the visual temperature of the light. The higher the degree K, the more blue, or "cooler" the lamp appears. The lower the degree K, the more "warm", or red the light appears.

If I have 2700 lumens what is that in K. i think k=lumens not sure though.

Since I am using these for veg do I need to keep them further away?

I have found some smaller 15/20/25 watt cfl's but I thought they wld be the 2700 and the 42w would be the 6500.
I may have gotten backwards.

Dont you want a more blue spec for veg and a more red for flower?

K IS NOT EQUAL TO LUMENS

K stangs for Kelvins. It's a unit of measuring heat

The higher the wattage is of a bulb the more lumens it will have.

So first you look for the color temp depending on whether you're in flower or veg, then you get the highest wattage (highest lumen output) in that color temp

6500k bulbs are also known as daylight bulbs
2700k bulbs are known as soft or warm white bulbs

put them far enough away that you can put your hand between them but close to the plant and it doesnt feel hot.

yes

if you are using cfl's make sure they are within 2 inches of the plant. Personally I keep mine at about 1/2 an inch (4 times more lumens than 2 inchs), but you just have to watch it more.

Do 2700k and 6500k bulbs have a size difference? I have 2 cfls, one is big and takes a couple seconds to turn on. It is dimmer than the smaller one and has sort of an orange tint to it. It dosent give off convecting heat and is only warm to the touch

The small one is really bright, its white light. Not warm at all, only to the touch. basically the same as the first one but smaller and the light is whiter.

Yeah that was my same problem.
I think the smaller ones are blue for veg and the bigger are red for flower.
Supposedly the ones for veg will say daylight or cool on the pack

what if you were to put about 8 6500k bulbs 26 watt cfl and then 4 26 wat 2700k for veg would that be good or not?
