Day 22 Flower 1000W Metal Halide

Update pics from day 22 of my indoor 1000w MH grow. Leaves are a little shiny as they just got sprayed for spider mites, hopefully I got em early enough.

The strain is from the Canadian Medical Seed Bank in Saskatchewan, I cant remember the exact strain number. I'm using a MH this time to see if there is any difference in final product, my last grow I used a 400w HPS and it was fantastic. Curious if I'll get a bigger yield? Better quality? My last grow harvested at 8 weeks and the colas were wider than a pop can, I doubt the MH would speed up the flowering time but they do seem to be a bit further ahead at the three week mark than my last grow...but then again this is only my second grow so what do I know?

I am pretty sure that mite spray will cause pistils to wither.

I think I can answer this one with logic. MH is great for veg because the light is "hotter" and the plants stretch under the white light (which is causing the stretch in flower). It's perfectly fine to keep using MH during the first week or two of flower, until your pistils really start showing and you can physically tell they're starting to flower, then switch to the HPS. The HPS more closely mimics the color of sunlight during the fall and the 12/12 cycle, this will cause your plants to believe that the winter is nearing and they will kick into survival mode. If you have an HPS laying around I say make the switch now. HPS has been proven to produce bigger yields as opposed to MH during flower.

I've read the same thing, but the only way to know the results for sure are to try it out yourself. I've heard of people using MH for the whole grow and say they got nugs just as big as HPS but more potent, I've heard people say that it makes the bud lighter and fluffy, I have no idea what will happen but either way I get a bit of bud ;) So far though they seem to be ahead of my last grow in terms of size and quantity of bud sites, with the light hung between all the plants I'm getting way better light coverage and bud sites down by the 1-2 nodes.

I harvested on Day 56 of flowering, all trichs were cloudy with a few amber. I was very pleased with the results I got from the MH in flowering, but next time I'm gonna try a 1000w HPS just to compare apples to apples. Here's a few pics from my trim, and I should be able to post a dry weight tonight as they have been drying for 7 days and had a nice snap this morning.

From 6 ladies, and there wasn't alot of shrinkage during the drying. They stayed pretty firm and have a nice sweet almost fruity smell to them.

It all depends on what you have to use, an HPS bulb can hang either vertical or horizontal but a MH bulb has a rating by the wattage, it will either say "BU" or "HOR" which means Base Up or Horizontal. Improper positioning of the MH bulb could result in fire. With the bulb placed horizontal overtop of the plants you will get an even spread on the top of your canopy, but with the bulb hanging bare and vertical between the plants I was utilising the light from all sides of the bulb and not only got a nice spread on my canopy but had way more light penetration to the lower branches which helped to put out some decent nugs on the lower portions of the ladies.
