I will fight for my country. Not my untrustworthy government.
well said chronic.. and i agree.. when some other country comes and starts shooting at my neighbor and my houses', you can bet i'll pick up a weapon and defend, but until that time, you can bet your sweet ass i'm not going to get killed for oil, or the red menace, or weapons of mass destruction, or what ever lie is told to soldiers going off to get killed for someone else's ideal's..

Without a strong military you could very easily be standing in a Communist breadline. The US, thru it's strong military, brought down the USSR. You think if we didn't have troops stationed in Europe that the USSR wouldn't have taken over Europe? There would be no South Korea, either. True, we have not been invaded. But what is the reason for that? A strong military.

I'm not a warmonger and don't think we need to be the world's policemen. I certainly wasn't in favor of invading Iraq, but have no problems with Afghanistan. We should have stayed there and finished the job instead of pulling out and heading to Iraq.

I equate people like racerboy with people that inherited their Family fortune, but have never actually worked a day and earned a dollar the hard way.

Now please allow me to ask you a question. What freedoms would you have WITHOUT a strong military?

and omg, no south korea?? who the hell cares tbh?? that effects my life in what way exactly again?? who cares if south korea followed suit with north korea and became commies?? how on earth does that effect the us??

tell me you're so afraid of something different, that you think killing them is a grand idea?? communism in russia and in north korea is exactly bad why again?? i'm no fan, but why do i care if the people in russia and korea chose to have a different type of government than we do??

oh yeah, communism was such a threat, all we had to do is sit back long enough and watch it implode.. yeah, some real threat there..

would every citizen armed and ready to defend equate to a strong military?

I think 90% of military should be standing militia

If South Korea just rolled over there would be no Samsung, LG, KIA, Hyundai, STX corp. I wouldnt buy those two car companies products but there are jobs in the U.S. due to them. Same for Samsung and LG, U.S. jobs.

So you don't have an answer to the question.

Being invaded is hardly "choosing" a type of government. Why should you care? You forget about Cuba. Nukes were going to be 90 miles off our shore. What stopped them? A strong military. You forget about foreign subs that have nukes even closer. What keeps them in check? A strong military. What made communism implode? Well, this is getting repetitive...

Teddy Roosevelt said it best. Walk softly, and carry a big stick.
