Newbie First Yield. NOT HAPPY.

Hey gang;

After 4 months of pouring my sweat, blood, and tears into my babies, the time to chop has come; (well, it came and went. Chopped down last week.)
_DSC7051.jpg_DSC7053.jpg

they have been drying in my closet for aver a week now and unfortunately, i am not happy with their outcome.

they look and feel extremely dry, even when i had chopped them down last week; they just didn't feel as moist as i thought they would be. Also, my Lemon Thai Kush that i grew in the 10 gallon came out very fluffy and not dense as other pot ive smoked. The Top Skunk 44 came out more dense and I grew that in a 5 gallon.

Top Skunk 44 is in the middle. To the left of it is some Lemon Thai Kush and that weighs about .78 grams. The Top Skunk the in the middle weight 1.3 grams and to the right is a fat lemon thai nug that weighs 1.6 grams. Not happy on the denseness.

Also, the smoke is not all there either. At first it was rough and tasted horrible, but little by little it started getting better. Now they smoke smooth, however, it just doesn't have that oomph to it. It takes a while for the high to get to you, about 5-7 minutes, then a very intense high kicks in but leaves very quickly. Also, it gets me a bit paranoid and nervous. makes my heart rate speed up and i feel a bit uneasy afterwards. so not cool. WTF!

I have them in Mason Jars right now in a dark cabinet. I open them up once a day for 5 min to let them breathe, then put them back in darkness. they have been in mason jar for about 5 days. I hope this curing process makes the potency better.

Where could i have gone wrong? I mean they look great, but they just dont smoke very well.

I think one of my biggest mistakes was over fertilization and too little water. Also, the last 4 weeks or so i had to battle a heat wave. highest temperature i saw in my grow room was 86 Fahrenheit.

Here she was at week 4.5 of flower. Looking very pretty with leave pointing straight up. After this week, the buds ceased to grow in bigger.

After that, they just drooped down and kept getting yellow and dying, which i believe was due to over fertilization.

what do you guys think?

Also...one thing I've found is that any weed you buy WILL have come from a clone. Growing from seeds is always a little hit and miss regardless of the price you paid for seeds. Some seeds just never express the genetics well.

I've grown out about 12 plants from seed, with about 6 strains, in the past year or so, and only one of them has been what I would call grade A++ smoke (Chernobyl). The rest were on a range from grade D schwagg (for an auto) to Grade B+ Lemon OG Kush.

Grow some more out, fix your grow problems, then clone the plants you like best.

The last few photos are showing a plant which is clearly overdosing on N...a guaranteed way to minimize your bud size. Dial is back, and you should double your harvest (because the plants are obviously strong in terms of their early growth, with great branch structure, meaning good roots)

Looks like you stunted them about 3 weeks before finish. This moves your finishing date which you probably didnt account for and is why you have such fluffy weed. No swollen cyclaxes, I woud say you missed the fattening stage comletely. You need to back track and figure out what wewnt wrong, with a main stem like that ya should have smashed it...... we live and learn. Forget dates next time, go on how they look and trichs. Better luck on your next run.....

On week 7 I flushed the 10 gallon with 12 gallons of pure r.o water due to the fact that the nute burn was getting worse and worse. For the 5 gallon I flushed with 8 gallons. On week 8 I fflushed again with 3 gallons with a quarter of nutes for the 10 gallon and 2 for the 5 gallon. I chopped down on week night with 5 days of pure darkness before I chopped down completely.

Is anyone else shaking their head at this statement?

Looks like the skimpy yield could have been cause by the high heat fluctuation, maybe the strain isn't that adapt to high heat. and judging by the size of the roomw/ mylar, can increase heat

The room is 25 sqr feet. 2 plants. It wasnt very often that it got to 86. More like 78-80 when lights were on.

You definitely had some issues, but you should stop beating yourself up and take it as a learning experience and push yourself to improve your skills. You can't be perfect 100% of the time. My biggest concern, as stated above, is that you went by time, not trich development/coloring.

Sam, stick with it brother. I've seen you on the board for some time. But unfortunately, Internet time doesn't count. You have to build your gardening skills to see the results.

There's no way anyone can troubleshoot your errors by looking at the info you have provided. They're just guessing, and that makes it even harder. You have to know all the details of what you did, how you did it, and the gear used to grow it.

My advice, take suggestions from trusted members that you communicate with over several months and know their grow styles. Keep a grow journal with lots of pics and have your buddies provide feedback as you go. It's the best way to use the RIU forum.

Sorry you're not happy with your results, but you did learn more about growing cannabis, and that's a win in my book!

Rep+ for your first grow and making it to harvest!

Best statement I have heard in a long time and Sam, the quick racy high is common when your trichs haven't ripened. You get a good fast buzz that is not sustained.
Keep up the good work and thank you for posting your results, even if you are not proud of them. rep+ also

I have to encourage you as well. Turn your disappointment into something positive and smash it on your next grow. I have problems too but if you are like me I lie in bed at night and figure how I can do things better.

for my first grow i was planning soil, i went to the hydro shop and the guy explained to me that coco is easier to get good results from than soil (something many people on here would disagree with). i listened to him and i'm glad i did, three years later i'm still in coco and have no plans on changing that.

if possible i recommend you try coco and see how simple it is for yourself.

there are a a lot of things that could have happened in your grow to make your final product the way it was, soil is actually a pretty complex thing with many organisms living in harmony, if you upset the balance of these organisms or kill them you basically render the soil useless.

coco is inert and only what you put into it goes into the plants, so in that respect it is very easy to keep a check on what the plants are getting. feeding is simple and you need only use one or two products to get good results.

prosperian is right, there isn't a person in the world who could tell you for certain what you did wrong looking at the pics, some could speculate and some could give you pointers on the little things you did wrong but nobody is going to be able to pinpoint everything exactly.
