Properly trained + fed dogs won't bow down to their ham... Have you ever seen a police dog stop searching for drugs over alittle food? Best thing you can do> Greenhouse with locks/alarms/cameras + don't say a word to anyone. If your getting ripped after all that precaution then it's time to move.
Yes, I have. Military Police dog on a Navel base. It was very funny.

As long as they don't steal the game camera too! They make them now with night vision+no flash if you want to get good pictures without them knowing.

Thieves usually run when they hear an alarm.
We need a neighborhood just for people who really care about the plant + their fellow gardeners.
LOL!! My guess is the flash will send 'em running! In that moment they can't be sure if it is a game camera or an actual person, so they'll run, trust me! Think about it, if you're wandering in the woods at night, even if you're not up to stealing some plants and a flash goes off, you're taking off!!!! :hump:

I think Red's point is there are a lot of people spewing utter BS in this thread. The only thing you can really do is a game camera. No sort of booby traps, killer dogs, etc. You people aren't living in reality.....

I don't know if I said this before but not all police/military dogs are trained proper.
If they try to eat "people food" then they weren't trained to eat only dry dog food.

Family(not me) trains proper guard dogs mostly for repo/towing/car-lots.
I could just drop them off back @ their house after the season so they had a place to go.

The dogs I borrowed for a season wouldn't touch leftovers or even T-bones. I always kept their food bowl full of dry food/water so they were never hungry>
I even dumped some leftovers out there a couple times + had to clean it up myself.

A good dog will alert you. A spot light controlled from the house is the safest way to get them to leave. But don't just leave it on all night. Growing outside will always expose you to rippers unless in a very remote area. If you grow on property you don't own, you have no legal rights to the crops grown on it anyway I like the idea of the trip wired flash bang, but it might induce the neighbors to call the police.

So you think a locked greenhouse with an alarm+Surveillance camera wouldn't do better than a game camera?
Game camera's are easily stolen with the bud if they find them!

I was referring strictly to this guy's situation!! That's like asking if I grow in a locked safe 15 feet underground if that would be better than a game camera!! LOL, of course it is!!

I like the idea of staging a camp site complete with lights, radios on timers. Add plenty of tripwire noise makers and you have a pretty decent security system.

And now that you know people know... Better plan on having someone actually staying in the tent leading up to harvest time.

Dogs won't hurt, but don't rely on them. I was a licensed reposessor and feeding dogs is incredibly effective in turning the most ferocious dog into your best friend. I have a 100% success rate doing it dozens of times. Even killer dogs locked IN the cars I was after was no problem. Uncooked hot dogs are irresistible.

LOL, yes kindnug, obviously anything you can lock up is far better. In this OP's particular instance, namely growing outside on his own property, at this point in time the only thing he can do is a game camera. Next year a locked greenhouse would be better. As of right now if he installs a game camera when the flash goes off this will pretty much scare the crap out of anyone wandering in the woods at night. Think on it for a second, if you're in the woods at night, possibly looking to steal some MJ plants, and when you're in the area a flash goes off. Now, are you going to just stick around and make sure it was just a game camera and not a person or are you going to take the fuck off?

I found a second plant that wasnt completely snapped just a head bent way over, how do i save it
It sounds too simple to work but often does. Just straighten it back up and reinforce it with tape. Works at least half the time.

Or you can keep the faithful, loyal dog who protected your crop and NOT drop him off at the pound like a piece of trash! IMO:smile:
Yeah, but then next year you will have to get another dog. Next thing you know, there will be a whole pack of them in your house. Who is going to buy all that dog food? That's a recipe for famine. Alternately, they may start trying to eat your neighbors thereby drawing unwanted attention to you. By whatever means, the seasonal dog guard needs to be re-homed at the end of the season.

At this late in the stage of flowering I think you're leaning more towards the half where it doesn't work. But maybe, try it and see what happens, what do you have to lose?

Along the same lines as the flash bang idea, I think trip wires of strong fishing line and some bells would be sufficient to startle and scare off most burglars.
The act of creating a ruckus or attracting attention usually scares them off.
It is less dangerous than a flash bang, (believe me if you are in the wrong place, those can fuck you up) and a lot easier to obtain.
Especially if you live in the general proximity.
Maybe add an extended cable with a motion sensor, near the grow area, and the light mounted to your exterior house lights, so when the bells ring, the motion sensor near the grow area will also turn on your porch light looking as though you were awakened and responded.

I've only tried it in early flower, but it worked well then. I'm a little more careful now.

i heard you can spray the bud with this neurotoxin that you can wash off before harvest. if the rippers blazes it, youll know who it was!

*naval

not a properly trained dog. even seeing eye dogs know better than to eat any food that is not their food, from their bowl, in the designated place and at the proper times.

You should rig up a sound system with a recording of the dog barking to a sensor off a security light when they trip the light they will crap it when the dog barks hey will think you've got yourself a guard dog
