Camera's can help you determine who did it!
Then what do you do though? Police aren't going to care about some stolen MJ plants.(even in MED states)

plus, an electric fence is easily defeated by rubber handled snippers.

there's no way to stop a determined thief, the only thing you can do without actually being there is to deter them, make their thievery more difficult.
You can grow 20ft tall Sativa plants + the thieves can only reach the bottom buds. I doubt they will try to steal a tree!
Imagine them dragging a 20ft plant down the street or trying to dice up a 20ft plant into pieces for a bag.
^If you can grow them that tall^

Most ripper must love immature bud if they are stealing plants this time of year.

sucks your spot is compromised, and that he supercropped your plant on you..

If I were you i'd make my back yard look like a prison. my room window the guard tower, get night vision scope for bb gun, trespassing signs.

make accessing it really loud, aka lots of dried out tree limbs that you can step on, "flashbang traps" wind chimes whatever

the dog will be your best defense though. build a doghouse out there and he won't come back

unless the ripper comes with a pack of ham, come on people if i walk up to your dog calmly and offer it food, ill be walking circles round it in no time.

whoever it is knows you do what your doing, they will prob watch as soon as they find out your a fam man and not a gun toting gangster they will try even harder.

they prey on the weak. (not saying you are, but ill assume youll put your family before a few trees this gives them the advantage)

as you said above your family benefit from this. if its your livelihood you need to start building some defences and proTEKt your home homie!!!

Properly trained + fed dogs won't bow down to their ham...
Have you ever seen a police dog stop searching for drugs over alittle food?

Best thing you can do> Greenhouse with locks/alarms/cameras + don't say a word to anyone.
If your getting ripped after all that precaution then it's time to move.

im gonna assume hes like every other dog owner is say hes current dogs only half trained. and unless he gives it to the police to train OR gets it put into a guard dog programme the dogs useless.

the dog will also have to be put to sleep, if he decides not to grow and has no more us for him. once a guard dog is a guard dog, theres no going back! if you do go down this road (dog trainings expensive) run a seperate ring around the fence of your perimeter and keep them there day and night.

beware even if you are the person that trained them, they are protecting the plants from HUMAN trespassers depending on the mood the dogs in it could be you they think is trespassing.

if you google how many innocent civilians are bitten by police dogs in the last year you will realise that they attack more innocents then they do criminals!!!

I like rusty old bear traps . Might loose a leg but in the end they will not be able to carry even a bud out of the area .. This has been done here in Northern Michigan and the fool caught in it did not squeal , no he knew better as the boys with the traps could have shot him in the end ..

I hate rippers and have known some people to take drastic measures as this is there life support , stolen plants mean no food for there children and no home as well . I can also testify and say that hiding in the dark while wearing black is going to work to your advantage , carry a black Louisville slugger and let them have it when they least expect it but do whats right and simply take out there kneecaps and I guarantee that they wont be coming back anytime soon unless they crawl !

Rippers are a sad facet of growing and in the end most are just low lifes that deserve a darwin award in the highest glory .. I sure the fuck would never want to catch one alive as it could be the end of my own freedom . But then again I do not grow outside and if someone rips my indoor crop they might as well bring a tractor as they will need it to haul it all away hahah

Nails in a board? Boobytraps to protect your property are illegal in every state as far as I am aware. If a trespasser gets hurt, do you really believe any judge or jury is going to be sympathetic to barbaric pot growers attempting to permanently injure people in the name of "protecting" their crops? Not a chance.

Since you don't want to risk your primary dog, why not get another dog and put him out there? At the end of the season, you can drop him off at the local dog pound. Pretty cheap alarm/defense system without the "boobytrap" risks.

I do not grow outside however, always thought of a product similar to luminol or the dye pak banks use to identify rippers..they step in it and track it back to where they came from or direction of depending on whether or not you want to activate with black light.

I will call the product "Rippers Be Gone!"

Or you can keep the faithful, loyal dog who protected your crop and NOT drop him off at the pound like a piece of trash! IMO:smile:

If you have the right fence no-one will be bitten unless they come through or over it.
I know you just want to argue but there isn't much you can do if they want it bad enough>

A Greenhouse with locks/alarms/cameras surrounded by a fence with FAMILY guard dogs is what I've used before I moved. If your in a high population area then post Beware Dogs signs. Keep it to yourself!

That's all I could do without someone being seriously hurt over them.
Dogs might not be a good idea for everyone. Mine are 7y/o and never bit anyone including me.

What do you suggest he do to protect them?

So i came home late tonight after being out for about 3 days..
i layed down w/ my girl for a few hours, felt like i should check up on my crop for some weird reason,
and once i walk through and my spotlight turns on, i hear somebody running away through my tall grass,
straight out of one of my crop spots. It didnt sound like a deer hopping away or any animal, it sounded like a person running for their life. I had a flashlight but it was still hard to see much since it was pitch black.(Spotlight is up on the hill alittle bit further up) I walk into my crop to find a head snapped off of one of my babygirls, it wasn't chewed on it was just straight snapped off, i'm thinking they didn't do it on purpose, but on accident when they heard me coming. There are very few that know about my grow.. basically just family living with me that wouldn't gain anything from stealing my shit because they will benefit from it anyway. There is one old p.o.s friend from last year that knows this particular spot. But I am still unsure. I just don't know why they would already be looking when it's not even flowering time yet :/
But i was just looking for ANY advice such as traps, security measures etc. Cheap and effective. I wish i could leave my Pit tied out on the runner all night waiting to rip somebody's face off but unfortunately i care and love my dog too much to leave her out like that. Just any advice on what any of you guys do to protect your crops would be helpful i suppose.. Just don't know what to do really and getting pretty pissed off about this. I never really had to worry about shit like this but i feel like this season I'm going to have to. Thank you for reading, any input would be great
First, if it's your property, why the fuck you telling ANYONE?! Second, get a game camera with a flash and mount it on a tree near your spot. When someone or something goes by it snaps a picture (the flash will go off as well, scaring the crap out of any person).

I was just typeing this damn you. However, if you have the video proof that the person was trespassing on your property then your okay.
No, you're not. Trespassing doesn't negate your liability. You will be forced to pay medical and punitive damages at a minimum. You will possibly forfeit your property, depending on local law. You will likely serve prison time. Its probably just some neighborhood kid, in which case you will face additional charges. If they are severely injured or die, you face a long prison sentence, possibly life. Booby trapping isn't crime prevention. Its assault.

If you were to set up signs to make the trespasser aware that they are in danger by well trespassing on the property. Then Acutally had the video proof to prove it I couldn't see you being responsible but it does vary on the circumstance plus where you live. This sort of clears up if the link works anyway my phone sucks. http://injury.findlaw.com/accident-injury-law/premises-liability-who-is-responsible.html
Its not an accident when you set up a booby trap. Its a willful, malicious act. You're trying to equate a criminal act to an accident.

Other than a camera, and some sort of indicator for you. I'd say get a guard dog strictly for being outside, can't beat a good guard dog.

As long as they don't steal the game camera too! They make them now with night vision+no flash if you want to get good pictures without them knowing.

Thieves usually run when they hear an alarm.
We need a neighborhood just for people who really care about the plant + their fellow gardeners.
