well i had about 30 bag seed germinating in peat pots, but what do you know they died. apparently peat pots suck for growing in:roll: Lesson Learned. now i live in eastern WA and the winter here has come very late the last two or three years, so would it be cool to still plant? and by late winter i mean the first frost didn't come till December.

Not too late. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hrs. Make a mixture of soil containing organic potting soil, perlite, vermiculite, Mosser's peat moss, greensand, whole ground corn meal, molasses, Epsom salt, Medenia Hasta Gro plus & compost. Fill Kiddie pool 2/3RD's way with the shit, sprinkle out 100 seeds, cover lightly with same soil, 1/4TH", sprinkle with water carefully, every day. Go from there.

I'm up here in this "late winter-crappy spring" too . . . NorthWest U.S.
I think you/we still have a shot. May I suggest starting them exactly like you would tomato seeds, then moving them out once established in a few weeks.
The last few years, I've grown a couple, in pots, amongst my vegetable garden plants. Come September, I spray em' for mites*, then move them inside to a south facing window and let them bloom normally. Has worked perfectly.
You have to spray X2, once for the living, once for the eggs, 2-3 weeks later, just to be sure. I use a product called Eight, which is used on veggies up to the day before they are harvested. Always spray prior to flowering, IF you have an insect issue.
