U.S. House declares immigration bill ‘dead on arrival'

WASHINGTON — Heard all about U.S. Sen. Bob Corker’s efforts on immigration reform?

As the path-to-citizenship debate shifts to the House, don’t count on anything near the same level of passion among the former Chattanooga mayor’s fellow Tennessee Republicans. All seven issued harsh statements or stayed mum on the question of 11 million undocumented immigrants already in America.

“The Senate amnesty bill is dead on arrival in the House of Representatives,” U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn said bluntly, hours after the Senate passed its reform bill by a margin of 68-32. “One of the great lessons we learned from Obamacare is that passing comprehensive reform packages creates more problems than they solve.”

No one minced words. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, of Jasper, said he’ll “fight to make sure this bill never reaches the floor.”

Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, of Ooltewah, avoided discussion of the Senate bill altogether.

“The House is working on legislation, and I look forward to reviewing it when it comes to the floor,” he said.

Their sentiment reflects House leadership’s view. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said explicitly Thursday that his conference would ignore the Senate bill, introduce its own legislation and follow a piecemeal approach.

The only reason deportation is a bad idea is that it would take too many resources to round all illegals up.

Good point. When you think about the logistical nightmare deporting that many people is I can't see it happening without major rioting in the streets. Although back in the 80's it wasn't uncommon for border patrol to conduct raids and hall away 30-40 people at a whack who were here illegally working on a farm or in a factory. I would imagine if there was a mass deportation it would also be accompanied by major conflict.

Well, if they quit chasing pot-heads and leave the medical marijuana people alone then they would have plenty of manpower and money for that.

it would also destroy local economies, eviscerate labor forces, and completely ruin families. not to mention the whole 14th amendment thing.

but yeah, if you have neither a heart nor brain your answer makes complete sense.

abandon's posts are relevant to the topic of illegal immigration, you just don't like them.

so much for "free speech", eh?

as evidenced by the invitation only group you created, to which you only invited like minded holocaust deniers, racists, and anti-gay bigots, the only free speech you like is the type you agree with.

say, care to refresh my memory as to what happened to the crops in georgia when they ran the illegals out of that state? i am so forgetful, i blame the fact that i am smoking cannabis that looks nothing like that plant material you are abusing/growing.

You mean it would free up some jobs for the unemployed citizens trying to feed their kids?
demonstrably false.

they couldn't bus in parolees and pay them $10 an hour to do the same jobs that illegals would generally do.

i'm sure someone of limited intellect and abilities such as yourself might (and that's a big might) be able to get a job washing dishes at the local truck stop diner, but that's not very likely considering the work you displayed in growing (see: abusing) a simple weed.

i'm sorry, that didn't seem like an answer to the question, and nothing was even C/P'ed to boot.

anyone want to take wagers on what post the "studies" from noted hate group FAIR show up? i'm guessing it will be in the range of posts 24-27.

A little black cloud follows you everywhere you go. Things are fine until you show up then it all turns to shit. A whole "thread closing" thread and you still don't get it. Uncle Buck people were shitting on you just as much as anyone else. Don't you see that?
