Hemp Extract

I received this email from my Senator today, and she quotes some DEA bullshit lies about Hemp. Now this is Industrial Hemp we're talking about. It's Cannabis Sativa but it has only trace psychoactive cannabinoids and less than 1 percent THC.

Here's the email, I will highlight the part I'm asking about.

Thank you for writing to me concerning your support for the industrial application of cannabis sativa L (hemp). I appreciate hearing from you on this issue, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.

Currently, it is illegal in the U.S. to grow cannabis for industrial purposes, although products containing "hemp" are legally imported from other nations and sold in the U.S. On February 14, 2013, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced the "Industrial Hemp Farming Act" (S. 359), which would amend the Controlled Substances Act to allow the cultivation of industrial hemp in states that have permitted the substance to be grown. S. 359 is currently pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senator Wyden also introduced this bill as an amendment to the 2013 Senate Farm Bill (S. Amdt. 952). However, this amendment did not receive a vote before the full Senate and was therefore not included in the final version of the Senate Farm Bill.

All cannabis, including hemp, contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is classified as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. I have concerns that legislation like S. 359 and S. Amdt. 952 could unintentionally weaken the Controlled Substances Act by allowing for the growth or manufacturing of a product containing THC, which is currently illegal under federal law. For example, the Drug Enforcement Administration recently reported that cannabis plants with a relatively low THC concentration provide a substantial source of psychoactive material that would be readily exploited by drug seekers if such plants could be easily acquired. Using a relatively simple and inexpensive process of chemical extraction, readily available on the Internet, hemp could be readily converted into a highly potent concentrate known as "hash oil."

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. I hope you will continue to keep in touch on issues that are important to you. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to call my Washington D.C. office at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

Now I believe I will have to respond with exactly what I think of the bitch telling me this idiotic shit, but I wanted to ask you guys first. Is this even feasible? Would you be able to extract enough THC to be worthwhile?

Technically, yes if a hemp plant has 1% THC content, and you had 100 lbs, you could get 1 pound purity for high quality BHO/hash oil. It would require a lot of solvent and would take some time however.

It is technically true that you can extract a pound of oil at 1% from 100 pounds of material, but it will be mixed with a bunch of other stuff that isn't psychoactive. Not unlike oil extracted from fan leaves and stems, which doesn't have a particularly good flavor and gives you a charley horse between the ears, instead of euphoria, because of the high CBN and CBD content.

If you extracted it and offered it on today's market, it most definitely wouldn't sell, because it lacks appeal due to bad taste and unpleasant effects.

If you refine it to remove the THC, not only would it not be cost effective on todays market, but the euphoric effects of pure THC are not that attractive for most people either. It takes the entourage effect of the other cannabinoids and terpenes.

What you have here, is arrogant pontification from a position of ignorance, or a secondary agenda that they don't want to discuss. The 1% THC concern may be a red herring.

I don't think that the 1 percent THC is by weight. It's 1 percent of the cannabinoids in the resin. I don't think Hemp plants produce much resin, but I'm not really sure. Whatever amount of resin is produced, less than 1 percent is THC. So it would take a huge amount of Hemp bud, and a long and involved process to extract it.

Why is THC Schedule 1? I think our government is full of shit and should be removed immediately.
