Hey guys I'm new here,

I just bought a GLH Spectra 120w grow light and am about to start a grow and was just wondering how good the GLH Spectra 120w is and how many plants could I grow under it? I was also wondering if I need to get a flowering LED light like this? http://www.dormgrow.com/led-grow-lights-1/led-ufos/90-watt-led-ufo-red.html. and

Any other advice about growing is appreciated too! This is only my second grow (First grow with LED, my other grow was done with CFL and natural light)

I'll put up photos and journal it and stuff when I get it all going, Thanks heaps guys!

Also here's what the ad says about the light:

The Spectra-LED 120 (Actual Power Draw 180 watts) Light System emits an unmatched 12+ wavelengths of illumination, uses 3 watt/3 chip LED's at a 90 degree viewing angle unlike any other system on the market today.

This powerful system excels in any indoor growing method including, hydroponics, aeroponics, or soil. At 7 pounds and measuring 15 3/4 x 8 1/2 x 2 1/4, this 110 volt dynamo draws a mere 0.35 to 1.25 amps yet delivers 120 watts of light and works in an operating temperature range of -4F +104F -20C~+40C.

The Spectra-LED 120w Light System produces much better results through every stage of plant growth, from vegetative to flowering to harvest. It features an 2.5' x 2.5' coverage area, 1.8'x 1.5' core saturation, and delivers over 95% of absorbable light to the plant.

well, whats your tent / space setup? I would do a 2x2.

there good lights, haven't been updated though.. and the guy who runs it is broke.... poor service, and in it for the money. they do grow though, just hope yours doesn't break, as this is one business I dropped long ago

no other light needed. it works fine stand alone.

I used mine before selling them for bonsai moms / veg plants / seedlings / autos and worked good.. I just had to sell as I had very bad experiences with the owner.

be careful to read warranty:

"In order to qualify for the 120 day money back guarantee you must keep detailed daily log of your grow with weekly pictures, when and how much and what nutrients used and pictures of end results. After review of the documentation if both parties agree that the light did not perform as stated, then you will receive a full refund after the light is sent back to GrowLEDhydro.com"

Um we're doing a 1.5 by 2 meters case; we're building the space out of wood, putting some mylar on it and wheels to make it easy to move around, it should be pretty good.

I will go ahead and say GLH is pretty well spent... I would not expect to hear anything back if you DO have issues with the panel.

I had two of there Spectra 100's (145w draw), these ARE good panels

Very hardy in my experience, and personal opinion. Sturdy build, killer penetration/output (for its day and age), and for the tech (no high wattage whites)

I would suggest keeping the light 20-24" away. 18" is the minimum, seriously. you will start to get yellowing beyond words, heavier and heavier if you dont dock it back. Takes a minute to stunt em, but we dont want to get to that point..

Again, these are some good panels, dono what the guts look like, but the penetration was king back in the day. (shit's all over progrow and blackstar, and then some), but dont expect anything if they go out (mine never had)

EDIT: I would do two, medium sized plants, or 4-6 small clones

Im sure two plants (max) will grow comfortable under that 120w. Nutes depend on your growing style. If you cant find shit locally buy online. But dyna gro is nice and easy.

create an even canopy using lst techniques. This will maximize light usage. avoid undercanopy bud terminals. GLH 120 Spectra's do not penetrate through the canopy as good as an hid. Main goal is an even carpet of tops under the lights. Look up scrog. If you still have those cfl's from the last grow use them. The more light the better in this case.

If you mist your plants be careful not to get water sucked into your led. These led's are chinese made with constant current drivers susceptible to water, especially if yours has no glass. One of my drivers went out a couple months ago. No response from GLH. Thing is, I dont want a free replacement. Ill buy the driver and install myself, but still no response.

Keep led a good 18" above canopy to prevent bleaching.

And a quick question.... Put on like 3 pairs of sunglasses, one on top of the other and look at the led light ON. How many different color diodes can u tell? I ask this because I purchased a GLH 290 Spectra 3-4 years ago and noticed it had red, orange, amber, blue, green, and some that almost didnt look lit (UV im sure). I bought another 290 1-2 years ago and noticed it only had red and blue. The newer light is brighter and needs to be at least 2ft away from canopy. Hard to tell the difference in grow quality but it looks like the older light takes the cake. Seems like the owner slowly stopped giving a fuck.

Better quality lights out there though. I hope you didnt pay full price for them.

Did you buy those off Ebay? Or from the GLH site? I use the 2010 models and they kick ass!!! But I tried giving the 2012 models a go with no luck whatsoever. Bleaching was out of this world! Maybe issues are resolved for the newest models?

You are all being nice, the guy got took the lights dont work and running a 400 hps produces a better easier healthier crop. Cannot produce light without heat, no matter what any one tells you, its physics. They work ok in veg but flowering suks, some say they have success but it takes many times and better leds, IMHO...Personally went from LEDS to 400 to 600 and happy at that...

Ohh noo dude ur wrong, I grew with a 400 hps once, and let me tell you it was ok for veg but all the plants died in flowering so the lights are obviously complete shit...... Get my point......

So do a search on Spectra and YOU will see, if you are interested how bad they are. They haven't changed and a 120watt or 150 watt light draws 120 or 150 watts, same cost, heat dissipation maybe better because the heat is spread across many lights - LEDS but heat is heat. I have 2 - spectra 180's which draw about 140 watts and a 290 watt which draws about 250 watts. Only use for vegging and still must extract heat same way as HPS or any other lite in a closed or semi closed area.

So, when you get some time on the boards and when you actually have a grow to share, please do,, until then go away.

I bought on eBay from growledhydro
( 93
). Great price, great performance.
Have a 400w HID gathering dust since.

I checked their new site http://spectraledgrowlights.com and let me tell you, that site looks shiesty.
Nice!! That is a come up for real!!! They just don't make them like the 2010 models anymore. I agree, the new site and new models are all bad. You came up nicely though.

Another grower who did minimal research on LEDs and chose to grow with a crappy brand and now ALL LEDs are bad. You're not alone bro, but there's far too many successful grows these days with exceptional results to continue trolling LEDs. Not saying you should give them another chance, just saying you couldn't be more wrong.

Bought the lights about 2 years ago. I doubt any comeback will happen with Spectra. It doesnt matter really. We already have a handful of great companies putting in work.

Yeah Dont Put your interests in hopes of comebacks and such, Especially when there is so much incredible tech out there right now, SGS 160 Represent!!! And even as an Area 51 Led owner, I still proudly support Apache tech and even the little HANS panel, because it is pretty badass for such a little guy. So Hippy nub, Why don't you get yourself some high quality LEDS and stop with the hating, it really shows how little you know of that which you speak, you HPS'ers are as bad/Ignorant as those religious fanatics, Like the God warrior from trading Spouses. "ITS NOT HID OR CHRISTIAN!!!!!!! and I REBUKE the, LED's, In the NAME of the LORD!" -HID/God warrior

Hey guys!
Due to our first lot of seeds not getting delivered the grow was push back a few weeks, until now. We have germinated 5 seeds and are just about to transfer them into pots. We're going to buy some cfls to boost the light when the plant gets a bit bigger, is this a good idea? Also, I'm going to start a grow report for it! Anything you guys want to see in it?

I was thinking about buying another light and starting a second grow and was wondering what you guys thought of these?

Do you know when these lights were produced? I bought several Spectra LEDS, based off from forum results and the lights failed by flowering miserably for me. Product support was little to none, and the company hit some hard times. It appears Spectra may have been sold to another LED investment company and they may still be making lights. I thought for sure they would be gone forever.

I will say that the lights veg great though, they are the 2011 models if I recall. I replaced the power supplies from 180's to 150's to reduce intensity for flowering. The spectral analysis was off the charts @ 660nm, and they torched my flowering plants.

As others said, they are well built and I've been vegging with mine for over a year now I think. Also as others said, I saw great results online from 2010 users. Mike made big changes in 2011 and the lights were put to market without enough research testing and trials. His theory was that if he nails the wavelengths and jacks the power, that the lights would work even better. Well it turns out he nailed the wavelengths, but the intensity is too much for the plant to handle during flower, even with the power reduction.

I don't know if its Mike making a comeback or another company's investment for sure, but if its Mike I wouldn't buy anything to flower cannabis from him. What you're buying on eBay are the lights he's taken on returns and exchanges. I know because I bought (6) of the 180 units and 4 of them are in boxes on a shelf.

LED's do work, but the 2011 Spectras are not recommended for flowering cannabis. Take the advice!

I found this thread b/c I'm doing a bit of research to see if I can tweak the spectrum of these lights myself this winter, maybe even towards an equivalent of an X5 type of array which could actually be used for flowering. I learned my lesson with those Spectras, I won't ever buy another LED without first seeing a spectral analysis!
