Does anyone cull the weaker looking seedlings?

All my seedlings look healthy and are doing very well so far. I am in the process of looking for a few worthy mothers to clone and keep. I have a few strains that I have several seedlings of. All look pretty much equal so far. Does anyone cull seedlings or plants in the veg stage if they are not looking up to par with the others? Just a thought.

I do that sometimes. Depends on the situation. Either that or put the stronger and fast growing ones in flower and let the weaker ones veg more until I feel they are ready.

^^^^ yup, this... Just had that same situation actually. 2 girls half the size of their sisters. Put the "big" girls in flower, let the 2 lil ones take up and bask in the veg box all to them selves for 1 week. Now they r in flower w their sisters, and are almost the same size! And tbo, are actually now prettier then the big girls!!!!

On another note, glad I didnt kill the lil ones, just checked on my girls & 1 of the 2 straglers is now producing 3 chutes at each node (as opposed to only 2)!!! Im not sure, but guessing this is a good trait. Thinkin bout grabbing a few cuttings as she has only been flowering for 8 days.

I once got about 40 seeds of an old skunk variety and planted 10 at a time every 14 days and pulled all the weaker ones as the time went by and was left with the absolute 6 best in the end after weeding out the males. I had some bad ass girls and ended up with a keeper I had for quite a while. Not to say I wouldn't have got to her sooner or later but I tell you what it was nice to get to her quicker and skip a bunch of bullshit in between. I guess if you have a bunch of seeds you got relatively cheap it's a good idea. I just enjoy to grow alot more now and would probably rather just grow them all out, and check em out for different qualities. It's really kind of a toss up, good luck with that! :peace: out.

I wouldn't kill them, might as well get whatever bud they give. I've had some retarded looking seedlings end up giving some nice buds. I agree with leaving them in veg longer.

If you have room and they don't look too bad, grow em out. If they look too "iffy",or you could use the room more productively, save your nutes and time. I usually grow from clones and keep the best 20 out of 24. The rest get tossed. That way you get a more even canopy and no runts overshadowed by her bigger sisters.

Thanks guys. I like the idea of leaving some in veg longer. I'm not killing anything. Just looking for some knowledge. bongsmilie

I am going to try this sometime Myco. I need a grow or two to replenish my medicine.

No need to cull imo unless you are growing commercially and really need the space otherwise you can just get less bud from them and then make sure they arent added to any breeding programs you may have going on so they dont spread their weak genetics. But once they are half done you might as well get something from them since they ate up your light, time, space, and nutrients/soil so far.

Definitely not commercial. Personal grow. I'm keeping them for sure. I may use a few to try new things on. New soil mixes, lst a touch harder, etc. Its all so much fun.

I like to take volunteers and see how far I can push them with hot soils and heavy feeding programs to see what the genetics are capable of. I found out recently I was feeding some girls about half of what they could take. I have them on a heavier schedule now and they couldn't be happier and bigger. If you never try you never know. Just a suggestion. :peace: out.

I find this to be an incredibly bad idea.

I can't even begin to count the number of strains I have grown that started out TERRIBLE in veg and then once hitting stretch in flower turn into an entirely different plant...

Some of those slow growers turn into real monsters in flower.
