  • So i was away for the last week and when i came home i noticed that 2 of my clones looked really sick... on further inspection i noticed these tiny little white fuckers on the soil and when i moved the stalk i accidently snapped the main stalk on the plant... on looking at the stalk it didnt look right and was very very brittle.... i through out the clones, pots and soil... now i see more of them on the soil of the mother,,, i have both veg and flower area on the same room... Im really worried... the mther plant was sitting on a dish the carpet and the little bastards are crawing on the dish... can these little fuckers do damage to fully grown plants.... i work with a perpetual harvest and cant afford to lose any more plants..... Last year i had a fungle Gnatt infestation and my yield dropped by more thant half.... Lots of people are saying they're harmless but im not at all convinced... Please help..... What do i do???

    Thanks Chris

I posted this in pests... no views so im putting it here to see if any one can help...

Springtails on well maintained and healthy plants are pretty harmless if numbers don't get out of control.

I generally deal with them in my coco thanks to a population that have inhabited my planted aquarium.

They are detrivorous feeders meaning they feed on decaying matter.

I've found introducing an enzyme based product such as CANNAZYM, HYGROZYME etc helps to keep them at bay as it converts decaying roots into usable nutrients for the plants. Also Trichoderma fungi is another good fungi that helps fight soil pests by out competing them for the food source.

If you want to get rid of them you could look for a pyrethryn based soil drench or something with SPINOSAD.

Young plants don't tend to like springtails very much as their roots are still young and the springtails do take the odd munch on fine root hairs.

Lady bugs preferred food source are aphids.

They will eat other pests such as spider mites but they will never eradicate a problem, only control it.

If you want a predator to combat them then the answer is predatory nematodes.

Brilliant...funny you mention cannazyme as i only ran out maybe a month ago...

Exactly when I noticed too.

I stopped using ZYM for about a year.

To control numbers a little you can allow your pot to get REALLY dry.

They love moist conditions.

Absolutely.... couldn't have dealt with another fuck up like the fungal gnatt infestation last winter.... i thought the plants looked a bit shit and small and thought it was the temp difference from lights on and off and by the time i noticed and treated with gnatt off the damage was done and my entire perpetual grow was fucked... went from 3 - 5 zips per plant to 1.5 - 2.5 max.... only just getting back to full speed now... panicked a wee bit there but feel better now... just buying some canna zyme and looking for a good boost.... canna boost give great results but was looking and a few others... what nutes atc do you use bro??? up untill a couple of months ago i was using the whole canna line, a friend recamended general hydro and been on it for the last couple of months... not noticed any big differences either way.... prob gonna go back to the canna line...

Ive noticed a big difference in bud density since a ran out of canna boost a couple of months ago... thats a nice gram/watt ratio, im back up to 3ish zips per plant depending on variety... with 8 plants in the flower room, one plant per week with a 400 watter and a 250 watter ( MH) side by side... growing Ak48, Jack 33, lemon diesel, Blue dream, sssdh.. Decided on the Lemon Diesel as my main money maker... What you growing bro

IMO canna boost isn't worth the price.

£55 a litre. Lol. Nothing deserves that price.

Currently got 2 DELICIOUS SEEDS FRUITY CHRONIC JUICE growing from seed and 1 DINAFEM CRITICAL+ from seed.

Topped when they reached 7 nodes and clones the tops.

Currently also got 3xFCJ clones, 1xcritical clone. 1 FCJ and the critical are the tops. 2xfcj are lower nodes from trimming up etc.

I will be flowering the 3 seed plants and also flowering the 4 clones under 400w. Gonna try a small SOG where 1 more plant would have been to see whether I could do 16 lolly popped clones next time and get a bigger yield with less work come harvest time. Lol.
