looking really good! Remind me again how many meters of LEDs are in there? I got the ol' bucket in the cab but I'm still working to get some things squared away. It's pulling about 300W at the power supply from nearly 4 5M strands. That is raising temps in the cab somewhere in the vicinity of 10 degrees above ambient.

after spending a decent amount of time playing with these strips and watching you, the pioneer of the LED strip grow , I have another idea already. Seeing how well this grow is going for you should support it's viability. I'm imagining a 'spider light' - where each leg is made of a strip of pliable material (say, from a throw-away turkey baking pan). It would be thick enough to have 3-4 LED strands on it to provide a balance of spectrum (may not be necessary, but I like what I'm getting from 2R:1CW:1WW right now). the idea is that you have many legs hanging down that can be manipulated through the entire grow so that it's always exactly where you want it relative to the flowering plant. It's basically the same as your current LED tentacles, just beefed up a bit (and a bit more work to wire up).

10 meters (5 x cool and 5 x warm) Im alwayz interested in your thread bruv. :) Planning now makes for a happy plant(s) They do pump out abit of heat though huh?

1st off....shutup about the pioneer thing! :D Right now my anger has been vented...I think that is an awesome idea...how are you finding the 5630's? I might be playing alot more with the strips after this grow as i get bored with the conventional quite easily...

ya - more than i expected but not enough to cause trouble unless I'm not cooling them well enough for them to last a decent amount of time.

the 5630s are bright - the 5050s I have seem to be 3-in-1 LEDs while the 5630s I think are each individual elements. One frustrating thing is i can't seem to find much info on 5630s in general. I bought them to play with and have had fun with the project, but, the more interested I get in LED tech in general, the more I'm trying to compare this product to that one which seems impossible. I know what kind of power usage I'm getting but based on the heat produced, obviously a lot is wasted. Just seems really difficult to judge bang-for-the-buck vs. something like an astir panel, a hans panel, etc.

I guess itz hard to find info on them as nobody uses them for growing and if they are using them for lighting cabinets etc then people dont document them...so i guess you are the pioneer on this... :D

I think that the proof is how well it growz plants for you....for example...there is no way that my shitty floodlights will compare with the might of a Area 51...but they do work for me and my situation. :)

Wow man this thread is outstanding. I just got done reading through the whole thing. My last closet grow presented a problem because of the smell in flowering. I think I am going to setup 3 or 4 of these PC grows all in different stages and just have them cycle through so I always have my meds coming in. Thanks for the inspiration. Going to be following this. :blsmoke: +rep

Thankz Bruv...good to have you here...if you want some more reading..check out my cabinet grow...its where my real effort is going (which is still minimal)

Yeah less heat meanz less smell.

Thatz a good idea with the different PC's...if you do...have a go with the 5630's rather then the 5050's....better stripz....(and just ask me, Panelata or Caretak3r for some more info)

Day 51 of 12/12

This was kind of the 'trial' for the cabinet grow and as you can see....the 'Purple Haze' is the biggest and best here by far. (These were all rejects or left overs) I believe that the Purple Haze had the longest Veg time (maybe 4 weeks) So i think i will start doing that on my cabinet grow. Currently they veg for only 2 out of the cloner.

Anyways.....

The Purple haze is 17cm tall....Made up of mostly bud....it seems to be a good yielder....will have to compare some of my cabinet Hazes to it....

Hey Chronikool, I've just done a test with some 5630's. basically I've strapped 3.5 meters worth of cool whites and a few reds onto the U shaped section of a PC powerbox. It fits almost exactly into the speaker box I have. The setup is small i know, but I'm only starting out and I can only work occasionally on this project. Thing is, it heated up way more than I expected. Can't help but be excited by the light though ;)
Would aluminium be a better substrate for cooling the strip lights? I need to aim for a quiet fan.
I hope to get a decent pc tower at some stage but even when I do, will I still have heat issues?

pretty much my finding - these things produce a lot of heat

A bit of heat is all good. Do you have a thermometer? If you are getting a tower case....you can always place more PC fans in. (although that does add noise) The bigger case will allow more space for air to circulate so yeah it will help with heat. I have a 120mm pullling in and a 80mm pulling out....but then again im working with lowly 5050's.... :)

Some bendable/flexible tin type of backing to place your 5630's on could help with the heat projecting down, will help protect the diodes and act as a reflector in between the strips aswell... Just an idea...dont know if thats feasible.

Feel free to post some pix here and me and Caretak3r will have a look. :)

Day 59 of 12/12

After taking a few 'naners of the Acid's...we are approaching the end of the road. Probably shut the lights off on day 63.

The Pineapple Express also had a hint of budrot which was dealt too. (Nothing major)

I meant to say Chroni, you could maybe rent or buy a UVA/UVC light to disinfect your grow space/destroy any pollen?

Or was that Fran i meant to say that to....or GreenSanta... :D I forget :P

Day 65 - Chop day...!

After leaving them for around 30 hours in the dark....i decided to bring down the (mini) forest.

'Acid' Wet Weight: 46 grams (5 plants)

'Pineapple Express' Wet Weight: 15 grams (1 plant)

'Purple Haze' Wet Weight: 20 grams (1 plant)

Total: 81 grams wet weight.

Time to recycle the soil
IMG_5742.jpg
HUGE tree... :-P

IMG_5743.jpg
Roots werent in too bad a condition....few whites still developing. Very happy with the state of the soil. :)

IMG_5739.jpg
Glad to see lots of wormz still in my soil. Means they arent hating my feeding regime and soil makeup. Each cup had about an average of 5 in there. They did a great job. :)

Will report back with dry weight and over guff in a couple of days. :)
