After seeing a bill board 150 miles N. of LA for a restaurant thats located 100 miles South of LA, well I thought I'd give it a try.

Anybody try Pizza Nova In San Diego?

Nah, not Hyde park, i assume she found it last autumn based on the colours.

Havn't had a steak in about 6 months, not a proper one that is. Maple syrup and mustard sounds interesting :)

Got on the bike and cycled an hour over the levels to have lunch on the river side. Very pleasant, but cycling back again, against the wind, with a belly full of food and ale was not quite as enjoyable.

Tempura prawns with lime and sweet chilli sauce (nice, but tasted/felt like they were bought in and simply went from the packet to the fryer)
Risotto with chicken, pea shoots and truffle oil
River Ex mussels with crusty bread

Yummy!

I want to go back to san diego just for the mongolian place in the mall. That was fun, fill a bowl up with meat and veg then they fry it all up with noodles for you on a giant hot plate. cheap but very much cheerful :)

RIU is being retarded and forcing double quotes despite editing em out grrr

man i have a chunk of glass just like that one on your table in my loo at home lol. looks like a real treat you had there man, and you've worked it off haha

i'm real picky with seafood. mussels are the most horrid thing. yet prawns and lobster i love. crab is disgusting to me or maybe i haven't had decent i dunno!? guessing by your assumption on the prawns that the truffle oil was not the real deal. it's easy to tell once you've had fresh. that stuff only keeps a couple of months.

and the maple n mustard was for the salmon ;)

Maple and mustard salmon :/ ok, now that sounds REALLY interesting and i'm undecided if that's in a good way :D

Big chunk of glass with seashells in. Cheap as it gets lol. Was just a kind of fun gimmicky alternative to table numbers. The table next to us was identified by a batman figurine.

I'll eat most any seafood. Bloody love the stuff. If it's shellfish, i won't even ask, i'll just eat it. Havn't had a razor clam in about 3 years :o the prawns tasted good but seemed a little bit too similar to the kind of thing you get in the supermarkets in the frozen party food section. And yeah, given that the menu was 2 courses for £12 or 3 for £16 it wouldn't surprise me if it was more a truffle flavoured oil than actual white truffle oil. Couldn't really taste it tbh, so who knows. Certainly room for improvement, but not for that price, so overall, very happy :)

think caramelised but sharp n mustardy. guess it is an acquired taste.

haha yeah they are cheap chunks of glass. i got mine from a cheapo holiday to spain when i was about 5 or 6.

have you seen you they catch those razors? pouring salt down the hole and they shoot out like an ejector seat. i have the same attitude to risotto as you do shellfish. you can't really make a bad risotto imo. 3 for £16 is a good deal too. you seem to get stuff real cheap.

razor clams and rack ;)

Triple T that looks like an amazing texture and taste contrast on that rissoto. Crunchy cold pea tendrills on warm soft creamy rissoto....oh hell ya. I love mussels too, especially with some leeks in there. One of my favorite mussel recipies is with a sweet wine, fennel, blanched leeks, shallots, garlic, cream and alot of apple cider. Surprisingly good. :):):)

Sounds good :) I rarely cook mussels myself. No dedicated fish monger in this area so the only option is from the supermarket, where they're alive, granted, but you cook em up and the animal inside is about the size of a penny. I like em when they're as big as your thumb :)

Put together a simple anti-pasti board with bruschetta for the folks tonight. Roasted pepper, fried courgette, mozarella, chorizo, salami milano, parma ham, vine tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, olives, parmesan, and olives :) Topping for the bruschetta was olive oil, vine tomatoes, fresh basil and parsley, anchovies, garlic, onion, lemon zest and juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Scrummdiddlyumptuous.

If they were proper olives i'd have had more, but those are just the bollocks you get from the supermarket in a jar full of brine, not all that pleasant tbh.

Grilled/smoked a pork tenderloin the other day along with corn on the cob. Turned out really well. I didn't have twine to wrap the pork so I snipped a young grape vine and tied it up. Used these jack daniels wood chips and I must say i like them(expensive though). Today was leftover pork sandwiches and a pound of vegetable salad from the market.

I know eh. for the price i was impressed though i'd prefer paying £4 for more than minute steak, but nevermind. i think i'll go for something else actually 'Braised featherblade of beef with pancetta, onions and tarragon mashed potato' sounds lush.

It does sound good.
I like minute steak in sambos but as a main for me it's too thin.
I'd go for the fat chips and the fish of the day.
