The real like Calvin Candie (dicaprio) was a fella called 'Charles Caldwell'. I find him and his views so repugnant I can't be arsed discussing it further. but to wrap this up neatly and hopefully this thread, the links below provide further reading.

That was one of the only roles that I've seen Mr. Cappuccino in where he actually played a character that was worth forming an emotion about. To claim you found his historical equivalent is a bit of a stretch. Caldwell is a horrible person, but I didn't see a mention of him staging slave death matches.

The film was not a biopic but a fictional re-telling of crimes that have been perpetrated against slaves since the Romans kept gladiators. Death-matches have taken place, and still do take place. Including fathers forced to rape their daughters, children forced to kill their parents etc.

CC was similar enough to 'CC' to inspire Tarantino's fictional character ... the OP was referring to the phrenology part of the film and NOT the death match 'scene'

True, I can see how that part of his character was based on Caldwell.

There was reference in the movie to Caldwell by Calvin Candie..I'm GenX while not Mensa, I'm pretty worldly and have never heard of Phrenology until this movie..Leo D best performance ever!!!!!!

Anyone catch significance of blood sprayed on cotton?

Also, did you catch QT shadow behind the door in Dr Shultz room at candyland? What I'm guessing to be QT hands putting money in the tooth..similar to the strangling of Miss Von Hammmershmarks in Inglorius Bastards?

Repugnancy and not discussing to me is the equivalent of head in the sand in which we are only condemned to repeat history (or at the very least ignorant of it)..I appreciate your comments, however this IS a discussion and if you don't want to contribute that's up to you..but that doesn't mean this thread has no value.

Obviously, you are from the UK so I don't think you can quite understand the American Civil unrest experience.

Great movie.

But wtf was Tarrentino trying to accomplish with that atrocious Aussie accent?

The money was coming out of the tooth and dynamite went in.

Best scene:

Don Johnson and gang before the raid on Django and the Doc. Hilarious.

I didn't notice that. I doubt it was though, he had already killed his character off. He was one of the aussie miners.

Candyland was before the miners..the miners were basically the end. Dr Shultz character was in the bedroom with Broomhilda makes the bed and starts to dress, standing next to the closet, you can see closet door is open and QT is there. Its one of his signatures, much like Alfred Hitchcock.
