Should i just give up and place the order?

I've been trying to pop seeds from my bagseed collection for well over a month now. And most of them just wont pop. I have tried methods of germination from paper towels to scarification and everything in between. i've had a few of them crack open and shoot out a tail. but only one (out of ~40 i've attempted to pop) has sprouted. and it too didn't last long enough to grow roots to the bottom of the grodan cube.

This is all so i can grow 1 or two plants!

I've got a propagation tray/vented dome on top of seedling heat mat. temps and humidity levels have been stable and well within the correct levels. My latest batch cracked and were put into the cubes 3 days ago. I'll give them a few days more but i just don't see any progress being made. Maybe i'm just being impatient. but at this point i think i've got the right to be frustrated! I've still got well over 150 seeds that can be tested out. But it seems i'm wasting time and grodan cubes-

ultimately i know it's up to me. It's just a shame knowing its my first grow and have all of these seeds. but i want to ask- at what point do i say Fuckit and order some femmed seeds?

This is day 3 after popping them into the cubes. (which have been soaked in PH adjusted water for 24 hours prior)

want to figure this out..........throw away those growdan cubes. no one uses them anymore, they are way too hard to ph correct and are too heavy thick to get a seedling to easily root. I helped a guy with this issue this year, and he's off to the races now. go buy a bag of either:

1) rapid rooter plugs
or
2) root riot plugs.

I personally like the rapid rooter ones better, they seem to have a better starter hold drilled out, and are softer, but both are fine. they are way easier to use. you just add moisture and go.

all I do is toss the seeds in a glass of luke warm water for 24 hrs. often times the seeds are already cracked after this, and just take a pencil, open the hole a little more in the plug, and put them in, not deep at all. I get almost 100% success rate with this no matter what seed company made the seeds.

rockwool sucks.

if you do this, I promise your days of frustration are over. also, lose the lid for the humidome. its not necessary, they don't need controlled moisture like a fresh cutting does. all it does it makes it hard to get them to live after taking away the top. pm me for help if you need.

Thank you for the Quick replies!

Too cold is definitly not the issue- The temp inside the prop/dome stays about 75-85F. And too wet MAY be an issue, but i havnt re-watered my cubes since they've been put in there and they are still moist. but not soaking wet.

As for plugs, can they be used in conjunction with a DWC bubbler system? Once roots are established, can i place them directly into my hydroton?

thanks again!

Agree. Rockwool is harsh for starting seeds.

yes. I run an ebb-n-grow with hydroton and put them straight into the hydroton, and I also have a coco room that I put them straight into as well. once I learned about them, I tossed all my insulation squares and went this way. welcome to the club.

Looks like i'll be running up to the store today. haha. thank you so much! +rep for helpfulness!

Ive grown bagseed successfully, I just recently sprouted feminized seeds I ordered. I sprouted the ordered seeds literally in three days with 100% success rate and they all are female! forget bagseed and get feminized seeds with superior genetics. As for germinating Ive been through a crazy amount of trial and error. The method I found most success with is the good ole folded paper towel in between two glass plates! foolproof ! all you need is 1)seed 2)plates 3)paper towel 4)spray bottle with water. with seed in between paper towel that has been sprayed wet placed on a plate with one on top then placed in a dark dry cool drawer for 2-3 days then you will see the little white tail that broke out the seed. CAREFULLY place the seed (with the tap root going down) 1/4 inch under sterile potting soil in a little cup with holes. keep moist until it sprouts. your seeds dont need light until they are starting to sprout, even then just light light. GOOD LUCK
