Werent they talking at one point outlawing people from growing their own crops?
They have patented several genetically modified seed strains, like "RoundUp Ready soybeans. They don't allow farmers to save seed they grow to replant next year, and are forced to buy from Monsanto every year. In the documentary I mentioned above, it seems like they even went after some farmer whose corn got pollinated by a nearby field of Monsanto GM corn. They went after him in court and won because he had "stolen" some of there genetics. Seems like even the guy who did the seed cleaning got his ass sued and lost and went out of business and he had no clue about deal. Might have gotten this a little wrong, but I know when I watched it the whole case was pretty incredible to me.
My ex-wifes family actually ran a seed cleaning business in IL. They used to clean wheat, beans, corn etc for farmers to replant next year. But the genetic licensing and hybrids put them out of the cleaning business, they were lucky enough to make a transition over the years to cleaning grass seed, and marketing high end turf seed.
