Too much light? Help please.

Hello all, Im planning a new op with HPS instead of cfl that I normally use. The room im using is 5' 8" long x 4' 8" wide x 6' tall, and I want to use 2 600w hps with about 90,000 lumens each, would this be over kill for a spot of this size, or would 1 light be suffice?

Oups, forgot to mention that ehy, 6 plants (in 10-12gal pots)

1 600 would cover those 6. But 2 is not over kill for that size room. I have 1 600 in a 2x3' closet

rule of thumb is:

400 gives a 3x3 footprint
600 gives a 4x4 footprint
1000 gives a 5x5 footprint.

I don't think it would be overkill though. Hot.......but if you can deal with that in ventilation, than you should be good. whats gonna kill you is the short height you have. you'll need them to be pretty short.

The amount of plants is irrelevant ...u could grow 20 two footers or 3 monsters...its all about the amount of space u wanna illuminate ....and no two 600 is not too much....sounds good

i was just edititinb my reply but meh,i woud just keep the cfl and hang it for the undergrowth along with 400 hps...ive seen 10 under a 400 and they were beauts

For a room that size 2 600's is not overkill. A 400w or two 400's is stupid for a room that large. I have a 400w in a 1.6'x3'x5'.

Also, HPS is for flowering MH is for veg

atm im in a 3 metre wide 5 metre long with 15 growing strong with a 600 just do abit of rotating everyday...im not arguing lol i just think 2 600s would kill your metre for 6 plants

2 it is then! thanks everyone, and yes it will be well ventilated, both setups are air cooled tubes with inline fans venting right out the chimney, along with small ac unit and other fans
