How to soundproof your inline fans.

I've been working on building a soundproof box for some time now... Heres the design I have come up with; its 3/8 MDF, 1/2 inch drywall -- soon to seal the holes with sound damp 1" foam. I've ordered 2" sound damp egg foam for the walls and the top..I'm going to purchase insulated duct work to give me the best sound bare but over all I think it works perfectly.

I've got a 6x24 filter in my tent right now & I have a 6x16 as a back up but when I tested it yesterday---only noise I hear is coming from the lines which will be fixed shortly & some small little things to seal up the box.

But I do hear a lot of forum members talking about noise. I'm in my garage so you dont hear this unit in the house---havent walked on the side of the house to hear if you can hear it.

But the way I look at it is; I intend to do everything I can do to make it as quite as possible.

U should check what the minimum free air the manufacturer recomends around the motor. Could be a fire hazard or a motor killer, the excess heat will cause the thermal protection to nuisance trip at the least.
Besides that it looks good!

I got a 6" fan, located near side of house, and I can step outside and hear it pretty good if set on full speed. I have an speed air controller set to about half though then you can't hear it outside.

These are INLINE fans; you do realize they stick them in addicts an such places where in FL it can reach upwards of 132 degrees during peak hours.

If I block air exchange from one side, it will over heat--these fans allow air to pass through which is what cools the motor down.

I'd suggest making a smaller box like this... 1/2inch MDF is $20 for a 4x8 sheet, you could double the material and scratch out the drywall and just do it all MDF insulted ducting it should cost you nothing more then 80$

Small duct is intake line 200cfm and big one is exhaust 440 cfm with the muffler makes it super quite only reason its loud to me is the 4 inch is not hooked up to a cf or duct miffler so its louder then the 6 inch but 4 inch will be going into seperate tent for vegging

NICE! So what you have is, 1 that blows air in, and 1 that blows air out?

I'm going to make a How To video on how to make these units because this community has given me a lot, the very least I can do is to give back.

I built my box with 1/2" plywood and lined it with with the pink insulating board 1" thick. Thats when I found out that the air being blown out was the maon noise maker. Brought me down to about 48-50 decibels though.

Why not buy some insulated duct hoses and be gone with the noise?
