My First Grow! Advice needed!

Okay guys, currently in the planning stages of my first grow.

in my head this is how it goes so if I'm incorrect at any stage please speak up and advise otherwise!

Germinate seeds (paper towel method) >
Plant germinated seeds in coco coir (with perlite) >
In the early stages of growth use a 65w CFL light until plant begins vegetation period >
Once vegetation is under way switch the 65w CFL light with a 400w M.H light with reflector/ballast >

(should I keep the CFL involved at this time or would it be more appropriote to remove it from
the grow tent and stick with the 400w M.H light on its own???)

Once the vegetation stage has been completed and the plant begins its flowering period switch the 400w
M.H light with a 400w sodium flowering bulb until the grow is finished

Keeping in mind I only plan to grow a max of 3-4 plants for my first grow, this is mainly about the use of lights.
Other advise on feeding/watering your plants is also appreciated!

a big thank you in advance!

That sounds like a decent enough plan. I would just go with the 400 watt MH and not run the CFL at the same time. I wish you good luck on your first grow.

My two pieces of advice to you are:

1 - Don't over water.
2 - Don't over feed.

What Berkman said.
It sounds as if you've done your reading and thinking, nice.
Germinate them and let us know how it goes.
That was a great first post.
Good Luck and welcome to RIU.

If this is your first grow like you said here are my suggestions, take em or leave em.

Grow in potting soil
Put seeds directly into soil, 1/4" deep.
Don't overwater
Be real careful of internet advice.

Best o Luck to ya'

Can I ask what ever happened to people using H.I.D. lights? you get twice the harvest
I think HID's generally outshine (pun intended) the cfl's and t5's, LED's and whatnot. Not to say that there are not applications where using cooler lighting is not an advantage, just gotta weigh it all in.

I would stick to 2-3 plants for a 400 watt light, and you will know why when you get into the 8th week of flowering. I would also recommend planting in soil instead of the coco as other people have recommended. Its not that you cant do it the way you suggested, its just soil is a little bit more forgiving especially for a first timer. It sounds like you have done your fair share of reading so I think you will be alright either way. Best of luck.

Also, I stick with CFLs until I get like 4-5 nodes just so the baby isnt overwhelmed when she gets the full blast metal halide. Every grower has their different methods so just have fun with it and do what works for you.
