...wow fire dragon really you dont say since thats what the original post was about..gotta love when people dont read the damn thread before posting their useless crap...and doniboy (same guy as daniboy??) he never said hes buying everything seperate!

i wonder if he meant it only stresses out the bulb if its dimmed i dont see why it would matter if its on full which is how you would normally keep it but idk about all that...i personally think all the ballasts these days are chinese junk regardless so its a crap shoot id put more stock in my reflector choice than the ballast choice..looks like you got a respectable deal especially since it was straight from the store because now if anything happens its much easier to deal with the warranty and what not..glad you didnt go with the sunspot all that room above the bulb is no good and the reflector isnt angled as well as others! good luck let us know how you like it

Ya thats exactly what he said actually, that when the ballast is dimmed its not good for the bulb since the bulbs are made to run at full strength. Im gonna run her at full power anyway unless I have real bad heat issues, but im gonna have to do some research on a good fan for my area (5x2x8 im sure. My temps are around 81-83 during the hot parts of the day with almost 400w of CFLs so Im assuming they will go up a few degrees with the HPS.

Kermit- thanks for pointing that out about the Sunspot hood, Im sure I would have regretted buying it eventually. +Rep.

I have to wait for the rest of my kit to get delivered before I can hook it up but I took the Blazer out of the box and checked it out and it looks primo. The hinged glass and the gaskets are sealed REALLY well. I love the wires for the glass too so it doesnt swing down too much when opening. Also I guess all there new hoods have the dimples on the flanges so your ducting stays put better.

Once I get everything set up Ill put up some pics.

Anyone know what CFM fan I should get for my area? (5x2x8 I know thats 80 cubic feet but if Im doing the calculating right thats a pretty low cfm rating even at 1 minute? Ive also read people needing way more CFMs than they originally thought, im thinking this will be true for especially since my ducting is gonna have to go all the way across my room to the window, although it should only have 1 or 2 bends.

Never mind I found the info about the CFMs...forgot you want air exchanged 3-5 times per minute instead of just 1. So I need a 240-400 CFM fan...hopefully I can find something cheap and not too loud with this rating.

Kermit do you think I should spend more on a Ballast or a Hood?
2nd Quote:
What do you guys think? Should I do the ebay package and get the hood from my hydro store or spend the extra money and just get everything from the hydro store?
First, no I only have "1" account on this site, and I'm on it right now. He did imply that he might not buy a complete package. He clearly stated that he was thinking about mixing and matching between his local Hydro store and Ebay. For his information and from my personal experience, I wanted to pointed out that it would cost more for the items and in taxes compared to internet prices... This was something I didn't think about upfront, and I regretted it. I didn't want the OP to feel the same way with his purchases.

You gotta love when rude people who suffer from a lack of reading comprehension try and insult you... Now, who didn't "read the damn thread" again?

I pointed out some cons for him to consider based on my experience, so that he could then weigh the pros and cons from himself. After which, he could then make the best decisions that he would be happy with without having any regrets later on. I don't give a sht if you found my post useless; my post wasn't for you or to help you. It was to help the OP who obviously did NOT find it useless because he gave me rep...

OP I'm glad that, in the end, you were able to make an educated decision that you're happy with. Good luck with your grow...

Thats actually the exact fan I was looking at. How loud is it and how effective? I saw a youtube video comparing 4 fans (maxfan, can fan, the active air, and 1 other cheaper one) and the maxfan and canfan did WAY better than the other 2 even though they were all rated around the same cfms.

Hmmm...my 600 watt setup will be here wednesday. Ive been looking at fans anticipating the heat increase...even though im hoping it wont be too much more than my 414w CFL setup I have in the closet at the moment. Im wondering if a cheap booster fan would do the job since my funds are tight? Any opinions? My closet is only 80 cubic feet and the fan Im looking at is rated for like 250cfm.

Heres a couple Im looking at:

I would be using to exhaust my air cooled hood

I just bought a 6" 240 CFM inline duct booster fan from amazon. Its sold by LEDwholesalers and is $30 shipped. This thing is nice. Its not silent, but the only noise coming from it is like a 'whooshing' of air. I have it exhausting my 36"x20"x62" tent through a carbon filter, and it keeps an awesome negative air pressure. Pulls the tent walls in tight when its zipped up. I would highly recommend this thing for a small to medium area. And I don't have air cooled lights, but I would definitely try this before spending the $70+ on a blower fan. I was glad I went this route before buying the Active Air.

EDIT: I would post a link but I'm on my Xbox's browser and it has no copy/paste function.

Thanks a lot for this man! That was one of the 1st ones I looked at as well but the negative reviews kinda turned me away from it...although theres like 3x as many good reviews.

Did yours come pre-wired? I can get pretty much the same thing at my local home depot but Id have to get the junction box for it too and its got plastic blades instead of metal which im guessing is not as good?

Yep. Pre wired. 6' grounded power cord. Plugged it in right out of the box and it BLEW (in an awesome way)! I was iffy about it too because of the negative reviews. I was torn about it for over a week. I actually messaged a few of the people on Amazon who, from their reviews, I could tell were using it for exhaust and asked specific questions regarding carbon filters and reduction of power, etc. I couldn't be happier now though. I had a 90 CFM with plastic blades, but it literally put out less air than the 6" clip fan hanging inside the tent which I purchased for 7 dollars at Big Lots. My local Home Depot doesn't carry any higher than a 150 CFM 6 inch and they wanted 49 dollars for it. And my local Lowes carries nothing in the way of ventilation equipment. Not even flexible ducting.

Thats great man thanks again, $80 for a fan is out of the question right now so im glad to know this will work at least for the time being if I need it. What kinda light are you using btw? Im really hoping I wont even need the fan when my 600w gets here but am pretty sure I will.

You will definitely need the exhaust fan with the 600w. I run 2x 150w HPS bare bulbs and supplemental CFLs and my temps would easily hit 95F+ without the exhaust fan on when lights are on. I really want to throw a 600w cooltube in my tent, but I feel like even a cooltube will have trouble keeping my temps down with 600w in a small tent. I would like to avoid getting a bigger exhaust fan. Are you going with a cooltube?

EDIT: I just went back and re-read. And yea, you will need the fan to extract the air from the cooled hood. Otherwise, may as well go bare bulb and save some money on the reflector (I would not advise).

Lol im thinking Im gonna have to ghetto exhaust it for a few days since Ill have to wait to get the fan shipped. Im gonna put 2 small clip fans on both ends of the flanges haha. Thankfully temps are suppose to be a little lower the next few days.

Just wanted to update for anyone thinking about buying the Revolt...got my package today and everything is working awesome. SOOOO glad I traded my cfl setup for this.

Im super pumped too because my temps actually have not gone up at all with the 600w HPS compared to the 400 or so watts of cfls i was running, dont need to buy an exhaust fan! At least not yet....anyone have experience with ONA gel btw? Im wondering if it will be strong enough to handle 3 flowering plants?
