400 watt hps for seedlings

They were cut in late December and took about 2 weeks to root. The growth rate is fuckin painful in a flowering setup with 2 cfl's and an HPS.

I might look into a 250w mH. I'm really just thinking about power usage as i'm not a seller.
A 400w adds about 20 dollars to your bill. The total would be around 30 including fans ballast ect ect. Nothing to fret about. That's when it's running 18 hours a day.

My electricity tariff is a bit higher than that.

$0.21/kWh so about 460w for the light, 48w & 36w for the fans and 2x 23w for the cfl's adds up to about
$42. I can't go any higher.

$.21 per, that's insane, do you get your power via Nuclear station?

Wasn't stating that you are loosing $$ via the HPS or MH...was saying you are wasting Lumens. PLANT would benefit at that age better with CFL's as the plants would would absorb more LUMENS as the HPS would have to be to far away for heat stress.
Stop reading between the lines..and actually read every one...Mr2

So because a 400W MH puts off 36,000 lumen the plant absorbs less lumen than it would if you were starting with CFL bulbs? You do realize how crazy that sounds, yes? Why do you keep saying HPS? Only idiots veg with HPS. HPS for veg causes stretching.

You can actually have an HPS closer to the plant than a MH because metal halide burns hotter. This is relatively easy to understand as a 400w MH puts off around 36,000 lumen while a 400w HPS puts off around 50,000. More lumen less heat so therefore HPS more efficient, but it's a terrible veg light. I can tell you're one of those who can never realize they are wrong so I won't waste my time debating with you further.
