SCRoG Revisited

One of the Blue Dream plants dried out and I don't think it can be saved. I am rethinking these growstones because they have been problematic. First off they are too hard to push the plant cage into so I had to put the cage bottom in first and then put the rocks around it. Secondly they dry out very quickly and this has caused much stress in the newly transplanted clones. I may switch back to Hydroton after this grow. Here is my dying girl:

I think I am going to throw a Tahoe OG clone in there to replace it because it has a similar flowering schedule, at least it's closer than the Afghan Kush.

Clones, new moms, and Grape Kush seedlings:

Another idea I am tossing around is to constantly have clones of each strain ready to go. I will probably have some as clones and some as teens and then just keep cutting new ones so that if this happens again I can just toss in some new clones or teens.

thats what im going to do. lol. im tired of having shit pieced together. making the closet a (cloning/small veg) station. getting a 2' 4 bulb t5 soon for the 2 domes on the top shelf and im going to put the 400 on the lower area to veg the smaller stuff. at least until they get big enough for 5 gallon pots. then it 1000 mh time.

I dont't think that will be a wide enough light. Maybe a 4' 4 bulb or a 2' 8 bulb unit would be better.

for two cloning domes side by side? more than enough i think just for rooting. im using 1 15 watt florescent tube right now for one tray. i think 4 bulbs is just right. 8 bulbs would be overkill i think.

As far as light output you are correct but not the actual size of the light. The 4 bulb unit is only as wide as one dome.

not sideways... you dont need a lot of light to root clones. i used a 13 watt 2k cfl for a whole tray of cuts last time with a 100% success rate. 20 for 20 aint bad.

I remember someone recently saying something about node spacing and fast growth if the nodes are closer together....

this is true. but once i cut them it doesnt matter. node spacing is set from veg. not done while your cloning. the node s[pacing stays closer for me just becuz i veg now with the 1000. not becuz of my rooting lights.

Yeah that's true I was confusing it with mother plant lighting, but I still think you want sufficient lighting for the clones so that when they do root they don't start stretching too much.

ive figured that part out too. im going to set up that old 400 galaxy ive got laying around to harden them and to veg the small stuff. ill give them 2 weeks under the 400 then under the big light they go.

I hooked up a top feed system for the time being until the roots touch the water. I pulled the dying plant out and will replace with a new Tahoe OG clone tonight. The color is coming back to the plants and they seem much happier. Lesson learned.

dropbox maybe?

yeah i think once the roots hit the rez, you shouldnt have so much of the issue of the growstones drying out too fast. How often were you top feeding, prior to the new system?

Twice a day. I thought I was just aiding the feeding from below but I guess there was no feeding from below.

I deleted all my photos from Photobucket, they suck donkey balls. Here are some pics, using RIU's photo sharing cuz I can't find a decent photo sharing site.

1000 watt tent with new top feed system in place:

I hooked up both of my light ducts to a Y connector that goes into 8 inch ducting. This then goes out of the garage, around the corner, and points directly at my air conditioning intake. I also have a booster fan at the end to help with the air flow. The insulated ducting you see acts as mufflers and really helps to dampen the sound coming from the fans. I think it cuts the noise down by about 75%.
