Sniff sniff, 21 days old & stinks already. How do I stop odor problem?

I had a big odor problem as well, and the carbon scrubber couldn't keep up. So we got a jar of Onagel from the hydro store and it did help out quite a bit. If you want to increase the cover up, put a fan blowing over the jar. It will evaporate the liquid much quicker, but it works to cover stronger odors. I think I will eventually be using two jars of Onagel with two small fans blowing over each jar. That in combination with a carbon scrubber in my cab should be able to handle even the most pungent odors. The only thing is you can go through the onagel fairly quickly. From here on for me its an experiment to walk the line between cover up and onagel conservation.

funny. i made a post about this a few days ago as well. my plants are 23 days in from germination and they reeeeeeek. its pretty nuts as i never expected smell until flowering.

i put some vanilla extract in a bowl with cotton balls due to someone on here's suggestion and its actually cut the smell back almost completely unless you're standing in front of my closet (then of course you can smell it).

I just decided to start flowering them since I was only going to veg them for 30 days.

I knew there was someone out there who remembers the "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers". They are like the precursor to the "Simpsons".

I have been using the Ona block for 4 days now. At first it seemed like I was getting 2 strong odors mixed together to make a real pungent concoction. But, as time has passed, it does seem to be working better. At first I just opened the jar (I also have a fan blowing over it) but it was WAY to strong for the space I have, very small closet type area (20"X5'X8') so I just put the top back on with just a little slit letting the Ona come out a lot less strong. IT WORKED GREAT!. The vanilla you used, superhighme, sounds like another good idea to mask the odor more. As I get into Flowering, I may use your technique too.

Has anyone ever tried negative ion generators? I have read those are really supposed to help with ogranic odors. I see ones available in the back of the popular science magazines and on ebay. I read about them on WebMD and supposedly negative ions have healthful invigorating effects on plants and people! Some of the more expensive ones look like they are in the hundreds of dollars, but if it effectively eliminates odors, and makes the plants grow better, plus make me feel great, they could be worth it. Has anyone ever used these in their grow rooms?

Sorry to hog up your thread, as far as carbon filters go, the cheapest pre-made quality looking filter I could find is at PHAT Hydro Filter , its a 4" filter about 12" long made by PHAT. It is called the PHAT HYDRO, I guess it is the filter put in all Hydro Huts, so I am assuming they work. Sorry all, I'll be quiet now, just a stranger spouting off.

I can't believe I left out the price of the thing. Its $44.95, I have not used mine yet but the weight of it is shocking. It is prob around 10 pounds. I got mine in about a week. Your plants are looking good, if its already stinking it sounds like you got yourself good genetics.

I Do think that haveing a plant of any kind with soil and what not would create a "planty" smell..i thought the same in my grow and at first i didnt have proper ventilation..

I've tried an ion generator in my grow room. I was unhappy with the results. It removed too much odour, resulting in loss of aroma and flavor in the finished bud. It did however remove all odour from the room.

Wow, I never thought of it killing to much odor, was the thc content still present in the finished bud? Would it be possible to get less of a generator than you had and maybe find an equilibrium?

Your plants look great jarhead, you must be doing the right thing.

Following this same train of thought, is it possible that if we used a cover scent or odor eliminator of some type (Ona) that the odor would be absorbed by the plants? Can you imagine, Pineapple/banana bud, strawberry/apple chronic crush, skunk/vanilla killer pimp . lol

Really though, is it something to worry about? I don't think I would like the taste of this "Ona" block to come out in the flavor of my smoke. Anybody have a thought on this?

Yeah damn, ona flavored bud that would be a bummer. I like the idea of flavoring it though, I have seen Nutes with Blueberry and Cherry.

I don't think the THC levels were affected but without the aroma the buds didn't SEEM as good, if you know what I mean, a lot of my enjoyment comes from the flavor and aroma of weed when I smoke it. I don't advise use of negative ions for this reason. The UV ones may work, and electrostatic percipitators do work but are very expensive.

The only advice you need is to not keep secrets from someone that is legally entitled to 50% of everything you own (notwithstanding criminal status which can entitle her to everything).

Oh my God, you're right! I should just go home & tear down the hidden room, throw out my plants and beg her forgiveness...NOT ! As I should have eluded, she does know I smoke, she just doesn't like it. And the part about criminal status, isn't smoking it illegal as well? Why are you here then? The grow room is (and here comes the excuse) for growing something that I won't have to buy, which saves money by which I can buy her more stuff . Well, it sounds good anyway .

But anyway cyks, I appreciate your concern for a fellow toker, and will be ever vigilant concerning my family life.
