Going out for a walk..

Anyone else find it annoying walking past people you don't know?

I never know whether to look at them, say hello, smile or ignore.

On a typical summers walk when there's loads of people out walking ,it just tortures me.I will mix all of those options up ,some people get ignored ,some get "hello's" ,and every time someone walks past I over analyse how I dealt with that 2 second moment.

It is so insignificent yet i think about it so much that it is almost a phobia.

I don't have issues with socialising, I just get torn between knowing that it is sort of weird to deliberatly ignore someone you are walking past.As this happens alot TO me ..someone will walk past and awkwardly look away ..and I think ..damn thats not right..but then i do it to..

Between that and my own personal belief that if i don't know you ,and will spend all of about 2 seconds walking past you ,why the hell should i say hello?

Then there's the final option of walk past ,look at them ,and just keep walking.. that just seems creepy..

lol talk about over thinking a lame situation..

anyone else on this boat?

On a summer stroll I am more likely to greet all that I pass.
But when I'm at the dog park I am more likely to ignore all that I can.

I like to say hi as well. If you need some space, how about some sunglasses, and earbuds? Are you high during your walk, cause that would certainly fuck with me.

i always smile but if she is hot and pisses of my wife, I always say something, Hey, how are ya? Nice day huh? and god forbid she has a dog cause i will stop for hours.

Ill say hi to anyone I really don't mind, only if the person is looking at me. If they are looking at the ground then I always walk by because obviously they think I'm a freak :-P

I'm a pretty social person to begin with, I can strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

It is actually worse when i'm not high.Being high is like a mental pain killer for me ,stops me thinking these bizarre thoughts.

I think it is actually down to a fear of rejection issue or something.

You see someone coming ,you know they will either be greeters or ignorers. You don't want to ignore a greeter and you don't want to greet an ignorer...greeting an ignorer is the worst thing..but ignoring someone who was about to give you a friendly hello is just as bad. It's just like arrrrgh here's people coming what will i do ?!

I love talking to people. I talk to anyone. High, drunk or sober... don't matter.

hehe sweetie sounds like you have a bit of social anxiety, its okay!

take a deep breath put on your headphones go take a walk and keep your head down, no one will resent you for not saying hi!

or maybe try an experiment?
go for a walk and say hi to 1 person each time, and each time add an additional person to smile or say hello to

sunni, you could be right about that.

I have had anxiety probs in the past. The thing is I am very stable right now ,i've got a gf of 5 years and a 2 year old.I am essentialy "normal" .I'm not a jabbering mess of nerves and sweat...

Actually i do say hi alot or a friendly nod or whatever.. but i find myself forcing it rather than it being a natural thing to do, making walks which are meant to be fun ,a kind of mental torture every time i see someone coming.. T

here comes someone.. *smile* "hi" ... "phew glad thats over"

this probably is an anxiety and confidence issue ,you are right.

i will speak to almost anyone. you can never tell if a guy is having a real bad time and close to suicide. my "hey buddy how ya doin" may save a life. everyone gets the benifit of the doubt until i learn otherwise.

I go on walks in forest/swampy areas and usually say hi to deer and squirrels but they're usually arrogant jerks and just run away....

But to be serious I spent most of my life similar to what you described.I went on citralopan( anti-D) and what a difference! Simple things are just that, simple! No more anxious feelings and unneeded stress..

if you can't decide to look away or actually say something, a friendly smile and subtle nod of acknowledgement will always do. :)

i'm always high and people always feel the need to smile and say hello. it's weird. i feel like i'm wearing a sign that says SMILE GOD DAMNIT. doesn't matter where i am, winn dixie or the marina. sometimes i don't want to talk but i always say hello. could be worse, you could be invisible to everyone. :eyesmoke:
