You're right... But what's the point of miminum wage when you can be sacked for no reason with no protections from those types of abuses...

So min. wage is pointless without other legeslative protections that all workers should have...
We have them

The right wants to get rid of protections alongt with unions

You don't have them... Just like obama care doesn't equal universal healthcare...

This is what it really looks like...

There are 10 minimum workplace entitlements in the NES:
1.A maximum standard working week of 38 hours for full-time employees, plus ‘reasonable’ additional hours.
2. A right to request flexible working arrangements to care for a child under school age, or a child (under 18)
with a disability.
3. Parental and adoption leave of 12 months (unpaid), with a right to request an additional 12 months.
4. Four weeks paid annual leave each year (pro rata).
5. Ten days paid personal/carer’s leave each year (pro rata), two days paid compassionate leave for each permissible occasion, and two days unpaid carer’s leave for each permissible occasion.
6. Community service leave for jury service or activities dealing with certain emergencies or natural disasters. This leave is unpaid except for jury service.
7. Long service leave.
8. Public holidays and the entitlement to be paid for ordinary hours on those days.
9. Notice of termination and redundancy pay.
10. The right for new employees to receive the Fair Work Information Statement.

these are just the general protections provided to everyone in AU. Individual agreements and "job specific Awards" provide even greater protections.

Yep, it's a balance. And even capital can be balanced in blood. The Pinkertons were not the first anti-labor thugs.

If you read about what happened in the coal mines...So, I understand. We were made to read Upton Sinclair. I've been all kind of laborer. I see that, human nature, being what it is, we have to govern ourselves as best we can. What else is there?

Someone made a comment I agree with. The man from Oz, I think. We were talking college, etc. But, he said if the only path to govt was not a born and bred for it, college puke, it would be much better. Sorry, he said it much better than that.

If we crawled up through some real experience of physical labor for months on end, for example, I'm sure it's better.

But, we seem to prefer the elite. 2 edge, right? These are the most successful examples of what we still think is polite society, not rich, not business, but elite. Harvard. Even Reagan and Clinton seemed to represent the sort of self made, everyman Elite.

But, Bush? Yale? Can't even talk straight. Not born in Texas at all. Kinda messin with us.

Could you imagine if Joe Blow could get elected, or the Cable Guy? It might be just the thing.

Sounds pretty socialist

How is the Unemployment in Australia?

Oh 5.4%. Well I guess job protections and minimum wage has no impact on hiring then

Why would it? it's a federal law so there's no getting around it.

I don't know how you equate laws that prevent corporations/businesses fucking over the average citizen as socialist.

We don't really need a sarcasm font...:)

Simple enough and common curtesy. The emiticon is used to denote jest or sarcasm. Please make a note of it. :)
thanks for the pointers from the guy that practically invented trolling.

So by placing that emoticon at the end of "We don't really need a sarcasm font...:)"; you are indicating that you were being sarcastic and think we do need the font?

maybe not...perhaps was it showing my peaceful intention and warning you that tongue is firm in cheek. :)

Then they aren't solely for indicating sarcasm, thus leading to such confusion. I'll go with a font that allows me to highlight sarcastic portions of my writings. ":)" just doesn't have the precision and pizazz a sweet font change would. :p
