people hate on mg because they feed off misinformation. if they knew about soil biology they would know better. i think most new growers especially want all the problems solved for them in a bag of soil. they don't want to learn about how different elements contribute to healthy soil. many of those elements dont come complete. they need to ba added. if you want to grow healthy cannabis you have to know about healthy soil.

Picture 078.jpgPicture 012.jpgAlot of your top soils are formulated oraganiclly through composting. M.G. will fast track this with chemicals that re-build soil, like simplot soil re-builders uses, in the mid, and rocky mountain west, They are sister co's. They strip mine things like phosphates etc.
M.G. soil claiming to be organic,,, is. All that raw,,, "Organic chem, came right out of the ground" The time release beads in this soil is just a dilluted solution, in gell beads. containing, all the stuff they use in the formulation of their fertilizers. This is the same co. as Scotts, Ortho, Round-up and many others. When I drove truck years ago for a Utah trucking co. We used to go in and out of their plant in Marysville Oh. This place is an echo-nightmare, looks really pretty around the property, But you won't see an insect, Bird, just people, the smell of chemicals, and green plush vegitation everywhere, beutiful, but, ..... wrong, you could just feel the wrong.
When I did "MY" experiment using m.g. products, They where awsome to behold, only after I figured this stuff out. I did let it go absolutlly dry between feedings. I even did a heavy, straight watering in between. This took awhile to dial in.Feedings only once a week, etc. B.O.M.B., on the right, Magic on the left. These look nice, but flavours are not there, B.O.M.B. tastes like cotton candy normally, Magic like grape cool aid. just doesn't happen with m. g.

i agree, i feel the first step is learning basic biology, then you can really understand what is actually going on.

Kinda relevant to topic. Why is mg not thought of as good, besides the environmental issues I was un aware of, thanks for the info by the way.. But what does fox farms have that mg doesn't.

Their fertilizers have all the necessary nutes including the micros,

And add some perlite which you should really do to any soil, ff organic or otherwise to help the roots and you shouldn't have any issues.. I even like the time release nutes, I pick my soil for veg and once its done most of the balls have dissolved, then you switch to your high p flowering nutes
After trying two plants without perlite, and then one with, I would recommend using it ALWAYS, but I made the mistake of grabbing MG perlite when I was at Home Depot or Lowe's, not paying attention to the fact that even their perlite contains nutes, but even with this, I had no burning issues.

yeah i made the mistake of using the MG peat moss, perilite and potting sil and it was a nightmare...but it was my own fault.

That's good to know, but the point I was making, was that the people that say they get burns from the soil is not the soil's fault, if I accidentally 'doubled up' and still didn't get burned.;)

well its never the soils fault, its the grower for just "assuming" that they can plop a plant in and a few months later have pounds of herb to smoke...peopleneed to start taking responsibility for thier action and stop pointing the finger.

I am only into my 4th grow and have not used MG yet. In reading I have come across many people who claim the taste of weed grown in MG soil was off or not there. Anyone have a comment about taste?

I have always found it be quite telling when I see threads with all the right stuff: FF soils, FF nutes, coco, I don't even know what else.... But the subject is all: WTF is wrong with my plant??
Half the time, these kids are fertilizing the shit out of lil baby plants... Lights rrrrrrrrright up to it, so it can get all that good light... And all with name brand products they got from experienced growers on RIU.
The point is bud! If a person grows bud in a cat box, good for them! I won't smoke it, but GOOD for them!
O and yes, I have grown plants in MG. Ornamentals. They love it. Why should MJ be so different? Cus you smoke it? Right...

i started with mg.I would use one third vermiculite one third perlite and one third mg. two tble spoons dlomite lime. I had a great grow with this mix. Im not sure what it was but the soil ph was real low. This was a problem in flower i added more lime to correct it and it worked but it took almost 4 weeks to get the ph back up... its like comparing driving a shit chevette to driving a porsche...they both will get you there but after your teens, maybe you need to grow up to a big boy vehicle.

^what he said lol^
Honestly, this analogy is the best possible one you could have used for me. I am a huge gear head lol.

I can say that the same strain grown in ffof did taste better. Same nuts same light same schedule. I only had to feed 2 times throughout the grow with the ffof though. The mg grown bud had more of a diesel taste or chem taste. But hell there could be numerous reasons why besides the soil. My 2 cents

simple explanation to why that happened, MG sucks!
