but anyways, u guys stll have cheaper petrol. we still pay £1.30+ for diesel.

Thought I would chime in on the issue .
My parents are driving to Ohio this weekend, and back. That is about 1000 miles round trip. I believe the UKs mainland is about 150 miles across. When was the last time anyone from the UK drove 1000 miles in 3 days? You drive golf carts because you don't have to sit in them for 10 hour trips where your legs literally cramp, and you can barely walk when you get out of your car to see your family in Ohio.
All I'm saying is the USA is a little bigger than the UK, and it will cost us a buttload more to drive the longer distances. People here commute sometimes 50 miles to work, one way... All I'm saying is when you have to drive longer distances you don't want to ride an erkel mobile.

I sooo wish I could get one of those peel p50s here in the US after that Top Gear episode. I only commute 6 miles, it would be funny as hell to drive to work once.
I have to buy premium octane so I pay quite a bit for gas, but it's still cheap here compares to 90% of the rest of the world.

One thing to remember with the $4 a gallon gas. That is like 66% of the minimum wage of the country. If you have a job where you are making minimum wage, or a little more, you are paying a large percentage of your hourly wage to get gas. What is the minimum wage where you are? And there are only like 3.8 liters per gallon I think, not 4.54.
And if my quick math was right, at $1.14 EUR a liter, translated to USD, that would be $6.83 per gallon, so yea, american have it cheaper, but we also drive more.

You wana know why Americans complain about that cost?
One: America's public transport is about as useful as slamming your head against a brick wall.
Two: Some of us have to drive long distance and it isn't really much of a choice, the US is a lot more spread out then things over the pond.
Three: You can't safely drive some of those small cars.. I've seen geo metros be crushed like beer cans in wrecks in traffic here.
Hell, my truck gets 25-30mpg and it hurts to drive because jobs pay shite here and if someone hits me in it I'm fucked.
I'll be honest, I'm poor like I make 7$ an hour type shit. I'm not embarrassed as hey, at least it is work that has heath insurance with it.

Most people wouldn't commute a long way for a minimum wage job though, since you can usually get one closer to home. Also, we still have public transportation even though it's not the best and people don't like to use it.
