Did I mess up already?

Hey,

This is going to my first attempt ever at growing.

I germinated 3 seeds; White Label White Ice in a dvd-box with moist towelettes. In about 2 days they showed about a 1cm long white root. I placed these seeds then in 3 plastic cups, where I put just 1-2cm of water, some Expanded Clay Aggregate and then soil. I also watered the cups with about 10ml water before I put them in my tent. Then I put them in the tent under a 400w SpNa light. About 2 hours after I put them there I noticed the temparature is getting far too hot, about 50Celsius (or so my thermometer told me, don't know if it was that accurate) after that two hours I raised the lamp about 40cm, put a fan in there and started cooling the tent through the window and the temparature has been around 30C since then. Now after two days they still havent sprouted, and I cannot see any root inside the cups (the cups are see-through, but when in tent I taped some paper on them so the light wont penetrate the sides. Actually one did sprout relatively fast, but it is only like 0.01mm tall and very yellowish-pale and hasn't grown since then. I watered them with about 10ml of water yesterday.

So, could this 2 hours of very hot climate have scorched my seedlings already? Or any info you have that may contribute is very VERY welcome! As I said this is my first grow and I would like to do well.

Thanks in advance!

yes you have messed up already. you cant start in clay you need to start in dirt or rockwool. seedlings need to have more moisture than clay will provide, if you dump the cup youll probably see little shriveled tap roots, get some rockwool or plugs next time. great sale on the tude coming up with ten freebies. dont give up yet youll laffe about it in a year or two

If any of this produces any type of plant it will be despite your care and not because of it. I nut roll at the crap people do germinating. Thank God our food supply does not depend on such utter nonsense. Paper towels, swimming parties, tap roots up and sweet Jesus.

The clay was just 1cm in the bottom of the cup keeping the moisture of the 1cm water better inside, the rest of the cup is of course soil. the moist towelettes should have anyways given enough moisture for the seedlings, and because of capillar-phenomena this makes the roots reach the bottom better. Are you saying that the only problem here is the clay? Everyone I know have started the growing this way.
