I have to disagree with Not Needing a PPM Meter and Not Keeping track of your PPM's. I know many growers get away without them JUST FINE,, But I like to know how much I am pushing my girls (or if I am not pushing them enough), and know that I am not going to burn them up with my next feed, as well, when I hit that SWEET SPOT, I would like to have a number to put behind that face. To me, not knowing how many PPM's I am feeding, is kinda playing the guessing game, but to each his own. In my opinion, if you want to do it right, learn what PPM's are, and how it works. I think this will certainly give you more knowledge of your grow and better certainty when you take your next step.

Also,, Just an FYI INDOOR SUN KING -- I mix my nutes the Following Late Afternoon, check my PPM's, PH to 5.8-6.1, then set it in the dark (in the grow room so its the same temp),,, Then I feed the Following Morning.. Seems to work just fine.

You still get a 'number' with ml dosage. ... and you hit your sweet spot when you find the correct dosage.

You can put your dosage amounts in a schedule for the plant grow and never have to take out the pen.

Its horses for courses I guess.
 
Rusty you said what I was going to for the most part! To say xyz nutes work fine based on this or that schedule doesn't mean much to me. Ppm/ec is pretty universal. And although I don't check them once I know what they are with a given brand of nutes or grow type, I do want to know. You can give me ANY brand of nutes with no feed schedule and I can figure it out quite easily. How? Ppm!

I disagree its 'pretty universal'. Theres no telling what certain additives will do when mixed together, even if a ppm reading is fine, doesn't tell you whats happening with the plant. Is an additive helping? or giving bigger buds? or causing a lock-out? a ppm doesn't provide much insight because its a measurement of the whole solution.

With 'ml dosage' tracking. Youre able to see the effects of individual additives and introduce them to a well established base nutrient regime.

I should say, I don't think one method is better than another, I see it as different ways of approaching the issue.
 
In regards to measuring PPM and growing multiple strains with different strengths', the answer is simple OC+. In the little time I've used it, I can see first hand why is adheres to the KISS rule. Control release fertilizers. Plants now have the opportunity to eat however much, or however little they desire. If you use RO like myself, add cal/mag and pH to 6.0-6.2. It just works.

I just don't understand what happens come bloom. .. the substrate is loaded with veg nutes. ... obviously there must be a solution, please inform me? lol
 
I'm referring to veg and bloom nutes, not supplements. Regardless of what nutes/supplements I'm using I still use my target ph as the wall, or close to it. It's usually going to err on the side of conservative. With my water, in my world, a ph of 5.8 is around 1400 ppm. I'm currently running a light mixture which is why I have to add a little ph down. As I increase the feeding ph will drop to where I don't need to adjust it. When it comes time to finish flowering at which I'm currently using avalanche, that will get added first and therefore the bloom nutes will drop off to compensate for that and still keep me in the target ph.

I know I make it sound complicated but in the end, after being familiar with a grow type or nute brand I don't check anything either. It's a matter of teaspoons, tablespoons etc. I do end up following a schedule, but its one created by me.
 
Well it's 31 days veg for the BF LSD, and time to say goodbye to this experiment. The conclusion, wrong strain, wrong medium for hempy...this LSD was a problem from the start in party cups of coco (a guaranteed starter in my garden) ...it burned with Canna "Start" after 1 week then burned more @ 250ppm regular Canna nutes after 2 weeks. Peeps say it gets hardy once it gets teenage and after the transplant to the 2g buckets of Grodan grow-chunks it responded well to daily 1/2L douches like a perlite bucket grow needs to get the root in res. But the day came where they drooped (over-water) so I let the buckets dry (8days it took for a 2" res). Meanwhile I've got a bucket of the extra grow-chunks in the garage that were left over from the transplant, and were part of the pre-soak...they remain wet to this very day. This medium is not for hempy...although there is lots of air surrounding the chunks...the moisture retention is too great for a bucket with a res in bottom. Anyhow, here are the worst pics I've ever shown on RIU...they aren't really that yellow (camera settings)....but they aren't emerald green for certain. Freaky, knarley leaf curls and canoeing...entangled leaves...just plain ugly, but dense none the less. I'm giving them to a friend who will transplant to plain coco in hopes of a salvage. I have 3 of 4 DNA Sharksbreath up from seed in coco cups...I need a guaranteed grow after 2 Barney's Farm mishap strains...might even revert to my coco standard to insure some success. BTW, these rockwool chunks would be great in the res, where you want your moisture lasting longer.

That's interesting as I picked up some OC this afternoon and it's 14-14-14, mind you it is not the plus but none the less. The other container of OC they had was not Plus also and it had simular NPK that your OC+ has. My OC is for tomatoes that I'm putting in earth buckets.
 
Barney's LSD grows weird on its own. I grew it for about a year or so and all the phenos had knarly, curled, canoeing leaves. I found them all to be very sensitive to nutes until they matured. After that in bloom they ran fine. Got the same strength nutes as all my other strains. In veg they were the only ones that were finicky. I don't know about any of his others strains, as that was the only strain I picked up from his line. Peace!!

Wish I had known you were growing this strain earlier, it dose not respond to nutes real well in early growth. LSD loves low dose nutes and will grow well in perlite hempy so I'm sure it would do well with the cubes. The only reason I no longer have it in my grow, is I'm the only male in my tent.

Odd number of 57 lol. I was planning on 60 but my *** needed a couple to fill his cab up :P I'm just guessing but figure 60 should be a good number under the 600. I will be trying different amounts to see what works best. Numbers are only a concern if I get caught. Back in the day I was running about 460-500 in a sog :) Don't want to play that high of a number anymore, to much to lose at my old age... Just a hobby/supply meds to myself n a few family members. Nobody knows it's actually mine, First step - Don't tell anyone!!! ever... Next round will have a few of Barneys LSD and his Red Dragon.

Sorry Jela, I forgot I was also growing his Red Dragon and didn't have any problems like I did with the LSD. Side note, The LSD is some nice smoke foresure. Try to keep your interest in her, she is just finicky.
 
One of the first bought seed strains I grew was an 8 Ball Kush from BF, it was an easy plant to grow and was a beast to keep fed. I grew it DWC and she would suck the nutes quickly. Was some pretty good smoke too.

The 8 ball kush is one I was thinking about. Trying to plan a future (gotta wait till my tent empties). Was wanting to run 2 stains. I got my snow white beans the other day, gonna give her a shot. Trying to find another. Also looking at god bud from BC and now I'm thinking about cataract kush, just not a huge fan of her taste but love her stone. Being a new grower there's tons I want to try just gotta pock one and try it I guess.
