food and gas are volatile goods,
LOL, so its better to find goods whose price doesn't vary much to show the increase in inflation? That makes less sense than using food and gas to account for inflation. Using non volatile goods skews the numbers very low, making COLA increases very small.

Kind of eliminates most of the advantages of being married. Also makes for a drafty house. If the wife works outside the home, then house keeping duties should be split between the spouses. If the husband doesn't work, then he should take care of the house. I draw the line at breastfeeding the baby, tho.
Do you remember what it was like to be married?

Raising the minimum wage just makes it easier for the government to collect a bit more taxes. It doesn't really make anyone better off.
That's one of many advantages in the government's favor for having a progressive tax structure, like we have. A flat tax rate would help keep the government from manipulating the economy in ways which increases the inflation rate as often.

So did inflation exist before taxes and the federal reserve?

In 1968 the U.S minimum wage was $1.60. If it would have kept up with income growth and distribution over all, it would now be at $21.16 per hour. Instead it's $7.25.

Seems like someone (presumably overly obese) is hogging most of the pie.

A long distance call was 3.35 for the first 3 minutes, keeping up with the same metrics we would be paying 40 bucks a minute. A new Caddy Deville was almost 6k in 68. We would be paying 100k keeping the same metrics.

Gold was around 20 bucks an ounce, keeping with the same metrics it would be less than 300 bucks an ounce.

Coffee was set at no less than 1.20 lb. Today it would be 15 bucks a pound.

Housing, gas....... nevermind.

Our markets have been so bastardized and manipulated that none of the data I posted means much.

You're full of shit.

What cost $ 1.60 in 1968 would cost $ 10.42 in 2012.

They intentionally devalued their money to cover runaway Government spending...

Funny that.
And war always brings inflation.....

So, let's see. Lot's of war lately, but, no inflation (they say)

Tear a page from the Old Rome playbook. Print extra money to devalue US currency...we now, Trust in God to sort it out.

OK, the other side.

Religion is born of War. War leads to inflation,

The solution is, we print more money and have more God War.

Sound about right?

Food and fuel are exempted from the government figures, but you still have to pay for it and it's still a factor. Fuel is technically finite, but we currently have hundreds of years of supply, and new sources are being found every day. Demand is anything but inelastic. And you called him a simpleton?

Of what? if you are talking about crude, you are wrong, we are not finding more every day and the finds we do make grow smaller every time we find any. So, according to the discussion you must be talking about all that coal that is so affected or so affects inflation right?

minimum wage jobs are for young people learning the job thing. imaine, 15. for a burger? or 20. well, you cut down the profit margine, something has to give. and ohbama, he is a communist. all his policies, are for free shit, so we all become "dependant". this is turn, makes sure the party never leaves power. sound familiar? like castro, kim, and the ass from venezuela. they stol all buisness from the owners, put em to work, and paid everyone equally LOW. so, as barack would say, "i want to level the playing field". really means, i want to end profits. so, make everyone equally poor, so we are all level now. like cuba. oh, people still own their business. but all money goes to the goverment, and each owenr gets his "allowance" to live on. really? you do the work, and everyone else gets the money. wow. what a concept. still, i think we will wake up. somethings are n the works now, expect real change, soon. peace!

Where do you get this spew Blindbaby? Firstly, 9 dollars an hour isn't going to result in a 15 dollar big mac. Secondly, this dependency crap that you folks continue to foist upon us has to stop. Will YOU become dependent on government Blindbaby? going to quit your ordinary methods of making money so you can get the government dole of 168 dollars a month are you? Or is it just everyone around you that is destined for this and you are the last superior citizen. I really begin to wonder about those who claim that everyone in this country is on a particular path- oh, except the one who makes the claim.

You seem to have extrapolated yourself right into thin air - considering tax rates have not gone up in the years Obama has been in office.

It has been demonstrated, by several different arguments that productivity has increased drastically while wages have decreased for all except the top "earners". It takes a heightened level of ignorance to continue blaming "everyone else".

You do the work and the owner of your company gets the money. Don't blame everyone else.

There obviously isn't enough work to go around, but plenty of consumer goods. Maybe everyone should work shorter days. By the way, now is the time to start selling products and services, Americans are buying all kinds of shit with Obama-bucks. It's good for economic growth, not that I think that is a good thing. The economy is bad for the environment.

10.00$ / hr here in Quebec...

But it doesn't matter. No matter how much you get for minimum wage, there is no law stopping people from charging what they like for shit.
So you get no where anyway.

Why can't they just raise the minimum wage to $50,000 per year, and help grow the economy and help the middle class at the same time?
