i jsut talked to lowes and the highest wattage cfl they have is 23 watts i realize this is not enough but would 8 of these equal 1 200 watt one?
also when i go to lowes and buy 30 of these things and 30 sockets and all the wire i need to wire them does lowes have a thing like wal mart does to catch the meth people will my supplies at lowes throw a flag for them to alert the cops? just to be on the safe side make a few trips to various harware stores to get my supplies? any thoughts on this?

Well I don't think buying the bulbs should be a problem. If they did say anything, say you are switching all the bulbs in your house to CFLs to save electricity. Anyway you say you are getting a 23 watt CFL. That compares to a 100 W incandescent which will put out about 1600 lumens total. If you are actually going to get 30 bulbs you should do 2 things.

1. Have a decent amount of space
2. Use 15 on one circuit and 15 on another.

You will be putting out 48000 lumens all together if you get 30 of those bad boys. Just be careful with wiring and so forth. I say get the bulbs at Lowes and then get the wires somewhere else (like Home Depot) or vice verca as Home Depot has a shit load more bulbs and good packaged deals to. At Home Depot they have 150W equivalents which I believe have 2400 lumens per bulb. Anyway, good luck with your grow and remember safety first! Be careful with all of those bulbs in a small proximity. It may just be worth it to get a MH/HPS conversion ballast.

If you dont want to risk anything buy it in several visits to the store. Generally the teenage clerk wouldnt give a damn if you bought all the ingredients to make an atom bomb.

ok after a few more phone calls i have found out that cfls are the same thing as the normal fluorescent lamps which are much cheaper so im thinking i will go to lowes and buy 10 or so shoplights 2-48 in each and weld a frame together that i can mount them that is like an arch that i can adjust up and down .............what lamps do i need cool whites or daylights? or a combo be the best way to go im thinking 20 4ft lamps shoudl be enough for 4-6 plants is this correct?

Cool whites are generally used for vegging while daylights are for flowering, but can mix it up in either stage. So I say just go with both. The more light the better!!

you can buy a 4ft shoplight without lamps for like 12 bucks i use to build some bigass aquariums and i would use them rather then the traditional they were much cheaper and the lamps will be free (my buddy is a maintence guy at a large plastics factory but all they have is the cool white so i will have to buy the day lights

you got this backwards freind. the daylight bulbs, usually 6400k are used for vegging. the soft whites usually around 2700k are used for flowering.:peace:

ok with that said how many lumens per plant per stage? is there a set amount? can you have too much in either stage?

LOL, I thought I was wrong all along, but this is a copy in the GROW FAQs under lighting. Cool white for vegging and warm white for flowering.

WHICH TYPE OF COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT TO CHOOSE

For anyone growing cannabis, it is pointless to buy a weak light. Given the option of 8w, 15w and 27w, you would be stupid not to buy the 27watt, as they are more or less the same price. Compare the lumen output of each of the bulbs, different 27w bulbs may have different lumen outputs (depending on the manufacturer) and as with everything, the more lumens the better. You will also be given 2 options, the screw method of fitting, or the bayonet method (push and turn). My preference is the bayonet fitting. Make sure that you choose the right one for your socket! Also, do not choose a regular compact fluoro. Pick the one with the energy saving feature (will be explained why later on in the document). Now, for vegetative growth you should choose the 'cool white' light. This is also acceptable for flowering, but a 'warm white' light will be better as it is stronger in the red end of the light spectrum which is more suitable for flowering.

blue light for veg and red for flowering simple as that. if you want a decent crop id say roughy 8000 lumens per plant, ofcourse the more the better.

warm light is red and cool white is blue correct? and more the better you cant have too many lights?

cool, thanks for the idear :) Iam gonna do this from now on. I just see white after going in my grow room. Is very annoying (and bad for your eyes).
