dont drill hole in the bottoms of the containers.. drill them on the sides drill one hole in the bottom a quater inch hole. then drill all the rest in the side one inch up this will leave water sitting in the bottom inch of the container for a day or two and it will wick up to the top layers as it gets hotter. this will give more days between watering.
Better yet don't use buckets at all, dig really large holes and put your good soil directly in the hole they blend in better and will not ever get root bound.

It will not produce an earlier harvest but it will produce more yield as the plants do not begin to flower until they have less light so regardless of when you put them out they will begin flowering when the sun tells them to. An example if this is my wife took some clones off of a plant outside in the middle of June it flowered at the same time as its mother it was just a small little plant, actually not so small, we pulled just under 2 OZ of of it after trim and cure. :weed: If you plan to grow large plants you will need to support them somehow or you will lose limbs during storms once they are big, as they cannot handle all the weight. There is another advantage to starting them inside, the deer love them like cocaine when they are tiny, not so much once its a bush. Good luck and keep us posted!

Ah shit your right about the same time harvest. I've got about 100ft of 20in green chicken wire to put around them to protect from deer cuz they usually eat shit 5 inches off the ground so I cant see them eating anything above 2 feet. Once I get some nice sized mothers after 4 weeks of inside ill then take about 10 cuttings around late april and get them rooted hopefully ending up the be almost as close to the same size as the mothers when I get to transplanting outside. I also plan on going to a neighbors little bamboo patch and cut a bunch down(haha) to straighten the plants vertically later on in the season and also put 2 at opposite sides to keep the opposite branches up-right

You have many question eman. Glad to see youre willing to learn.
You asked about strains: that is pretty subjective, most plants that finish under ten weeks should work fine in pennsylvania depending on your area of course. I lived in williamsport for a couple years and it got cold way early compared to my hometown in SE pennsylvaia. SO if your up north find a strain that finishes in september, otherwise i know people around my area whove had success with strains that stretch into november.

Haze hybrids: yes haze hybrids will definitely work as long as the flowering finishes early enough. I have an Amnesia Haze that i'm dying to try this summer

Pests: there are a ton of pests that will get at your plants, I suggest getting some type of organic insecticide and following the directions. I use Azamax (active ingredient azadirachtin) this covers 90% of pests you will encounter, is certified organic, and wont harm non invasive species like bees, small mammals or fish. Now deer are an obvious pest, and some burrowing rodents too, so put up chicken wire around your plants. Depending on your specific location termites may also be a problem. The myth is that termites only eat dead wood but thats totally false. When your plants get large and the stems become "woody" termites can invade, weakening the stem and preventing nutrients being moved from the roots up the plant. I had termite before and created a thread for it which you can find by searching, there are a few people with their own opinions but my most immediate solution was to use a Termiticide that was recommended to me by this dude from australia. It's called Dominion 2L and can be purchased online. Started using that and no more termites, but you must begin using it BEFORE they start attacking your plant.

Hope i covered most of it, I could go on and on about outdoor growing but i hope this helps. Check back in with your progress.
I am very north east, and strains are important, nothing with more then 40% sativa up here even less is preferable for outdoors up here. It was a learning experience as I came from (grew up) south Jersey and what work there doesn't here. But here is land heaven, lot more spots, no need to jam em in one area like Jersey. Good and bad I guess, such is life. Good Luck!

You might want to keep the chicken wire close enough to allow the branches to grow through it, the biggest problem when they are huge is where the stem and branch meet, they tend to snap there if not supported properly. I think if the chicken wire holes are big enough I would only put it like 12" away in a circle and let the plant grow right through it. This should give you support where the stem and branches meet.

eh thats a good idea but thats what im worried about is the plant growing through the wire cuz where its located is basically a deer heaven and always see them around there so I dont want to be dissapointed midway through to half eaten plants

I haven't had any real issues after the plants are 18" or so tall, when they are babies they always get eaten not sure if its deer or not. I have deer that bed down not 15 yards for a spot I grow and they have never been nibbled on. Put a tomato plant about 20 yards away, they will munch that to nothing overnight!

It's cool to have a diverse set of growers here on this thread. PA is a big state with many different microclimates, i'm interested in seeing how everything turns out!

I hear ya, I say we all try to post some pics this year. At your discretion of course but if ya'll do I will. ;)

I have never taken photos of my plants before a month or so a go. So, so sad, I have had some really good outdoor grows that woudl show of nice. Hell I had some indoor grows in 94 for that were unreal not so much quantity but quality! At the time we called it Daywrecker, better know now as Diesel. That shit was unreal for back then!

I didn't grow 86 - 92 I was in Germany but I went to the Netherlands at a minimum every other month, talk about being in the Dank! back in 86! Loved It!

if your cloning indoor then put them under 24 hour light keep them moist you should have roots in 2 weeks then when you put them outside put them in the shade for a week to adjust to the light keep the cuttings misted with water if you are cloneing outside put clones in box with a plastick cover with pinholes in it and keep them moist and keep them in the shade for 2 weeks they will be rooted and ready to plant i start them in 16 oz cups in a box in the shade with plastic cover with pinholes in it keep cups watered good i have 100% rate

any more questions please ask
ps: roottech gel and rockwool is good you can use a clear plastic tub and put small pin holes in lid and keep a half inch water in it and put it outside in shade and they will root in 2 weeks no bugs can get them
