ortega15 x ortega#3 given to Ed R by Nevil. Who only got two definitive ortega15 phenos out of 60 sensi mli beans, it is not particularly dominant but looks just like he first pic and exactly like the pic of the cola laying sideways that shanti posted beside the ortega description. It's Maple Leaf AfgT, which I crossed with Ort15 male which was also pure Maple Leaf. This was the most indica ML male. This male dominated most things it was put to. Because of this males dominance, you had to grow a few plants to find the AfgT type. It also didn't have the yield I wanted so I didn't release it then. SB was right to use this line as it is one of the few sources left of the Pure Maple Leaf. When it is crossed to an Indica/Sativa out of AfgT or it's sister AfgS, I'm expecting some extreme shit.

What about the "hermie" issue that is being widely reported with this strain.........I read Shantibaba said only use it in breeding programs because of the trait. And flowering the plants very small help with hermie issues........... I have a pack but have held off flowering it because of this issue.

Sk1 and ML(ort) lines have thrown hermies before. What you going to do, throw the baby out with the bath water?
When ever I got hermies I blame the male. Lots of females can produce pollen. You can't throw them all out. As a breeder I've progeny tested many males on the same female. Some exacerbate the problem some suppress it.

Does this mean that you breed with females that show show male flowers? Doesnt that add to the herm issue? I would think that if a female showed male flowers, it shouldnt be breed with?

Nevil, I hear you. It seems it became a major problem, with many complaints and issues beaten to death at Opengrow. It didn't appear to be an occasional male banana either, many of the females where really throwing off pollen. When even Shanti says only use it for breeding, I believe him. I want it, but I don't need the aggravation of room seeding.

Either way, I always love hearing from Nevil. My all time favorite smoke is N.L. 5 X 2, which I'm sure you remember well. People still talk to me about it, 23 years later. So strong, you'd still be very high THE NEXT MORNING.

Back to Ortega.......... so basically Ortega is a mix of Maple Leaf Indica pheno's (100% Afghani heritage).

Is this Neville here? If so, thanks for the info and bringing this strain to everyone. I have not tried the Ortega and it is not in stock at Attitude.

I love my MLI and the seeds I made from it (f2) grew plants just like the originals. Very stable strain from what I saw. So the Ortega can be found in the MLI? I thought I noticed 1 pheno that looked a bit stockier and really xmas tree shaped, and had a bit better buzz to it.

I'm assuming it was Nevil. That's what I like at Opengrow- him and Shanti always pop in and out setting the record straight.

I bought the last pack of Ortega (actually I tried to buy 2 packs but they only had 1) at Attitude a few months ago.

I think it's more like MLI can be found in Ortega pheno's.

Nice to have such distinguished company.

Can someone more knowledgeable than I, please explain the relationship (if any) between Maple Leaf Indica, Ortega, and Northern lights?

I know Nevilles history but its 2013- why are we so pumped up about breeders who use herm momma's for their breeding? All I see is ass kissing and everyone is afraid to say something negative, if it was Sub- everyone would be all over him for using females who show male flowers for breeding and would be laughed at. Neville said, what am I gonna do- get rid of my momma's? The answer is "Yes", get new ones and do some work with them and that would solve the herm issues!

i dont like transvestites either but at least shanti made it clear that it should only be used in abreeding program and i respect it.

My ? is i loved LUI what genetics resemble it the most that mns offers? That is for med production.

You might want to try their Medicine Man, which under a different name is White Rhino. Grown right it is killer med's, high resin content, great yielder, etc. One of my all-time favorites too.

It's not so simple really. People shit on Subcool for not stabilizing anything (For the record I think the flack he gets is largely unfair and the real problem with genetics in this industry is a general lack of understanding by the consumer probably more than anything outside of the legality). Getting rid of the "herm" gene would likely require getting rid of many other genes too. The best thing to do is to send it back to the land of recessives if those other traits are important to maintain. That's why Neville mentioned different males doing different things. To really do the kinds of things you want to see without sacrificing anything would likely require millions of plants grown and run.

Just because you breed with a herm plant, that does not mean the offspring will necessarily be hermaphroditic. The F2's would (likely) show hermaphroditic qualities however.

The "hermie" trait is also sometimes recessive so it may not show up for a few generations. Makes it tough to go backwards and start over after the fact. If I could only choose seeds from 1 vendor to take with me on a deserted island, Mr. Nice stuff would surely be one of my top few choices. I've had nothing but great results over many years from their stuff.

thanks for the rec. sshz i did grow medman but my yield was less then LUI and i am looking for what most resembles that stocky lemon pheno of LUI. i seem to get great yield and quality from black widow and the women love it. they have been spoiled for yrs

I love ortega! Bought 2 packs, popped 1 pack and found 4 female keepers and kept a male. All super stoney and no hermies in the 14 females in the room but I did have some hermies in the same room from OG raskals fire bubbas. I bought the ortegas when shanti first introduced them so maybe they were solid then and now they are hermie prone. Out of Alien Starfighters, OGR Fire Bubbas, OGR White Fire, Next Gen Grape God, Alien Fruity Pebbles and the MNS Ortegas, the Ortegas were by far the most potent and had more keepers from the bunch. My problem now is trying to keep up with the demand for clones that all my homies are wanting from my ortega moms.
