when supercropping goes bad

ok dumb story. New strain stretched like a mofo. Never seen anything like it. Cant raise my lights anymore. Starting to get bleaching and burning on the middle set of plants. Week 5 of flower. cola and buds obviously well established.

Well thinks I after a few to many wax hits.. Ill just bend the stem at the top and lay it down. Never did any lst or supercroppin before. Checked a few youtubes.

First one goes fine. took the top 12inches or so and layed it down.

Second plant the entire top breaks off in my hand. Doh.lost the whole cola.

But wait it gets better. I still had one more to do. snap. same thing. dohhhh.

so yea, when you have brilliant ideas, maybe slow down and think before doing it.

or just do it properly, make sure to adequately pinch (damage) the stem before you are bending or.. well you know. ;-)

It depends on when you do it. If its while the plants are still stretching in the first few weeks the branches are really flexible and cooperative. But as you found out unfortunately by week 5 they are very rigid and inflexible, slight manipulation is possible but full on bending of them will snap them. They can heal back if not too damaged but I dont like doing it that late while theyre budding because that exposed tissue can attract mold/rot.

Before LST, super croping or tieing down, make sure the plant is well watered.. bend not break.

All great suggestions ..... next time you decide to supercrop ..... try and do it with a clearer head maybe.... if not.... Here's a tip.

work the part you want to supercrop slowly... pinching, twisting, but lightly (sounds like i'm giving sex advice) without breaking anything ...... after doing that for a good 5-10 ..the area you're about to supercrop will become more pliable to make that final break.

Dont feel too bad though ...i've done it my first few times, it is a bit of an art to be able to do it properly. And all open wounds keep check. The only time i had a fungal infection in one of my plants was from a botched supercrop job.. but it was a bad botch ..... huge open wound in the stem.

my advice .....just work the stem till it becomes soft enough to get that tiny crunch, and make sure you're pinching the stem the right way to avoid tearing the tissue.

with strains that stretch a lot during bloom, i would suggest just using LST instead of SC..

TAPE IT BACK TOGETHER NOW! ASAP! DONT EVER FINISH READING THIS!!!
When you break a branch try to tape it back together bro..I broke two main stems(they're still broken but healing) LSTing my plants. Didnt break them all the way off, but read in the even that you do TAPE THEM BACK TOGETHER because it happens!

tough luck dude.

i just did the same thing but nothing died, at least so far. they got too tall so i started out gently then got real high and impatient and started crushing the hell out of the branches. the next morning i thought, OH SHIT what did i do?

some are 12" or so long and they are bent as far over as they can bend without breaking. i'm shocked nothing has died yet but i bent them on dec 25th so i guess i'm good to go.
the pot gods were kind to me.

super cropping 8 days into flower 007.jpgsuper cropping 8 days into flower 008.jpg

they look like this now. i never found a thread about what happens if you bend them too far. so i hope our misadventures helps someone.

the bent areas are dark and thin but all the plant material looks just like the undamaged areas. pot is one tough plant. thank god.

i wont super crop during stretch anymore just tie them over if you have no more room ,i super cropped during stretch because of ht issues and the " knuckle" where i super cropped never fully healed.Plant took resourses to heal and bud production suffered ,and final yeild was low because i did this. trial and error best teacher.

i always tie them over for multiple bud sites but my tent is so crowded, from past experience, i knew that tying down 40 or so tops would bring up a whole different set of problems and entanglements while trying to move them. so i got high and thought, what the hell, i'll crop them.

i've never had a height issue before, but i vegged these about a month longer than usual and they got too big.

yeah, experience is the best way for sure. i'm a pothead, screwing up once in awhile is a given. being able to figure your way out of the hole is the fun part.

hard learned lessons are best for me.

yea this was just a new strain on one of a few trays so im not that worried about it. I sog and dont like all the lst/supercrop stuff. seems like a pain in the ass. The mother of these just got tossed into flower so I dont have to deal with it again. The one that didnt break I did knead the crap out of it to the point I thought it was to much. But its still looking fine today so i guess it was the right amount ;)
