Uncle Ben's Gardening Tweeks and Pointers

I just went ahead and paid the high as hell shipping price a minute ago, had a hard time finding a comparable really. I'll use my GH Flora Nova in the garden on veggies and whatever else needs a ratio close to it. In the meantime I'm using some pure N to boost the N in the grow formula. I can definitely tell the difference, much more emerald green now.

Thanks for the quick response UB. Took a peek at the link you recommended, but im afraid with my small setup, a 25lb bag might last me 100 years haha! One more question if ya dont mind. After reading through your Snake Oil thread and Tweeks and Pointers thread, im well aware of your thoughts on the various nute lines out there, and i must say that i fell for it as well. I purchased a 1.5lb bag of maxibloom after reading the KISS thread here (luckily, it only set me back about 15 bucks) and i was curious if i should utilize the Maxibloom (5-15-14) and just "enhance it" or am i better off just scrapping it and going with a Peters solution? I was thinkin the maxibloom, if i have to use it, would be more beneficial in flowering, but it seems a little high in the P. Thanks in advance and your time is greatly appreciated.

Heres the profile of the Maxibloom
Total Nitrogen (N)......................5.0%
0.5% Ammoniacal Nitrogen (N)
4.5% Nitrate Nitrogen (N)
Available Phosphate (P2O5).............15.0%
Soluble Potash (K2O)...................14.0%
Calcium (Ca)................5.0%
Magnesium (Mg)..............3.5%
3.5% Water Soluble Magnesium (Mg)
Sulfur (S)..................4.0%
4.0% Combined Sulfur (S)
Iron (Fe)...................0.1%
0.1% Chelated Iron (Fe)
Is that designed for hydro? I ask because of the high amount of Ca. If for soil you could bump up the N. This is what a good amount of blood meal gave me regarding maintaining a dark green leaf. Of course genetics played into this too.

I never throw away a plant food, just tweek it if need be.

I am hoping to have the girls look half as good as that ha! I cant answer the hydro question from experience, but from what ive heard they have a difficult time getting it to fully dissolve in their rez. I am indeed in soil, and was thinkin of boosting the N with only 5% in my current fert. Next go around i will be creating my own soil, but this time i used Master Nursery Gardners Gold potting mix (had a nice special going at a local nursery and im a sucker for shoppin local...not to mention it comes decently ammended). Ill pickup some blood meal today and scratch it in and see how they green up.

thanks again. much appreciated

What did you use to boost if ya dont mind me asking

Ammonium Nitrate I believe is what it was, one of the pure nitrates that contain zero P and K. I think it says urea free on the bag also. It's in bb's/pellets and breaks down pretty much instantly. I'm not sure how small a bag you can get though, I have a 50 lb. bag used to spread in gardens or soil where it's been depleted. The soil here tested to have a surplus of P and K, but was depleted in N. They may sell it by the lb at a farmers supply or a good nursery. It'll work for short term, but I don't want to keep doing it that way, because it can be easy to get it out of whack I'm sure and wind up with N toxicity. Until the JR peters comes in I'll do it this way.

Gotcha. Been doin a little diggin on the ole interweb, and im reading that an application of 1tbsp/gallon of soil seems to be pretty "standard." i use that term loosely!

Does that sound about right, UB....for established plants?

1 TBSP of blood meal per gallon of soil is pushing it. BP may be organic, but it's fast acting and can be pretty 'hot'. You'll know soon enough LOL.

Amazing!, i just killed off a few males but i had them transplanted a day and a few hours before... and i buried the trunk just like you suggest on this thread... and i can't believe how many new roots where shooting out of the buried part of the trunk already!
I have another question, Is it ok if i cover the soil in garbage bags to save it for the future? like 3 months or so? I don't want to waste 5 gals of soil if possible. ( i would leave it in the pots )

I've stored my soil mix in garbage cans for months.

Thanks,
UB i been trying to find info about transplanting and training plants but didn't find any specific info.. Most people stress that you must wait at least a week before you do something ( switching to 12/12 ) to avoid stressing the plants even more. I wanted to do some super cropping before going into flowering since this one i had never trained it. The plant responded well to transplanting and it was looking very healthy and full of live ( still does ) so i decided to super crop the main stem right above node #4. Broke it a little bit ( nothing critical ) and i'm wait for results and see what happens. I'm at least going to let it veg 15 more days under 20/4 400 mh. 25c/18c temp with tones of half a gallon CO2 bottles ( about 10 ). I have another plant that didn't respond very well to transplanting and hasn't show sex yet. I think i'm just wait until it responses and take that one with no training to lighting if it is female. Did i do the right thing by super cropping or it was too early?

Sorry, never done "super cropping". My super cropping is growing a good sized tree with plenty of foliage and roots.

Oh ok.
I applied the four cola technique to one of the plants ( i don't know the sex yet ) i think it was too young or something happened.. and took a while to get back to business but now its growing really quick. I have it on a 2 gallon pot. I was just wondering.. the most i will let it grow would be about 10"... you think if i don't repot ( white widow//dutch passion ) it would be a problem? ( since i would like to switch to flower in 2 weeks or so ) if it doubles/triple the size? or should i report no matter what
I was also thinking on cutting the bottom of the pot and doubling the size by putting same kind of pot under it if it turns out to be female.. i don't know

Get you a book or two on conventional plant culture. No double pots, learn to upcan. Do the 12/12 when you have a big enough plant to manage for the rest of its cycle.

Ok will do!
I'm reading right now Greg green, The cannabis grow bible
The marijuana growers guide by Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal.
I know i been asking a lot of questions and is not that i'm the lazy type who doesn't do research on its own by there is so much information online besides the books that... Some people say this, some people say that.. and i have to filter with the little experience i have of what might be accurate.. and in some scenarios it's really hard to know without many many many grows of experience. I was wondering.. if a plant have a female tendency by stressing it with "techniques" before it's flowering time can turn them males? or not possible... females stressed = hermies?
