They have just as much right to speak their mind as anyone. If you don't like the message, don't listen to it.
Perhaps if we shut them down as a hate group I can get any group I don't disagree with also to be shut down. like the teachers Union, or the Police benevolent society or......
The first amendment is for everyone, not just the people who speak the messages you want to hear.

It's not the message, it's the medium. Live, hate mongering at funerals and similar events, isn't voicing an opinion it's attempting to cause psychological abuse on hurt, and grieving people.

That's how they get in the news, if people started ignoring them maybe they wouldn't do it? You don't really think they do this because they think it makes them look good do you? It is an attention grabber device that sucks everyone in. If you have a message and no one to hear it, how effective is your message? The news does not do stories on the good that people do, the media LOVES violence, harm, controversy. So much easier to keep people distracted with BS than to let them see how things really are.
Its freedom of speech, disgusting, but yet still their right. Unless they get physical or break an actual law, what they think of others is their choice.

It's not freedom of speech. It's not hate either. It's pure filth. It should be dealt with like pornography. If you don't want to see it, don't turn on the TV or computer IN YOUR OWN HOME! If you projected two guys feltching on the side of a building in Times Square, you get arrested. I have no problem if you close the blinds in your house and either use earbuds or have adequate sound proofing material in your room.

Churches don't get tax exempt status because they help people in need, they get them because they are non-profit organizations.

I totally agree. Just dont disagree with some on here cause they will tell you that you support their beliefs and support the deaths of the kids.

there is a difference between demonstrating in a town square that i can choose to avoid and demonstrating at a funeral that i am attending. all this "hate group" label will do is make certain things they do be up for investigation as domestic terrorism, as far as i can tell. the funeral nonsense and the "praising god for the slaughter" or whatever they say is crossing the line into harassment/torment and provocation. deliberately disrupting mourning rites and rituals to taunt the bereaved should not be written off as a simple exercise in free speech, but i don't think the hate group label will give the fbi any more ability to charge them with terrorism than they already have, unless i missed something. what's going to "happen" to the WBC if they get designated a hate group?

We're not talking about freedom of thought, or even freedom of speech. This is harassment and a form of psychological abuse.
If pot smokers are abusing people, then yes. I do think they should be silenced. However, there isn't the same amount of damage being caused by people choosing to consume a plant as there is by a group of people attempting to demoralize and abuse the public that doesn't conform to their beliefs.
This whole, eye for an eye system is what got the USA into the shitty spot it's in. Why should we want to be in a society that caters to the lowest common denominator? Outlaw hate speech in Public, and if that outlaws something you cherish, suck it up Princess. It's for the greater good. No one should have to hear "verbal pornography" in public. If you want to go home and 'seig hiel' all over your house proclaiming jews fabricated the holocaust, that's fine (not fine IMO but allowed at least), but keep that shit out of public spaces.
Society doesn't progress when we cater to misanthropes.
