fan question pls help

whatsup guys ive been looking and i cant figure out how i would set up an inline fan in my room i have a 400w hpswith a air cooled hood i have a 6in inline fan rated at 400 cfm i just built a 8x4x7.5 room. (240 cubic feet)


My main thing is how do i set up the fan ? do i keep it in my room to suck the grow room air through the light out of the other side back into the room? or in the wall getting fresh air from another room through the light out of another hole in the wall? i need to add a filter for smell i havent yet purchased one but i 100% need one.

can anyone experienced with indoor grows help me out.

If you don't vent it out of the room it won't get rid of the heat from the light, just circulate it. I also suggest you push the air through the hood instead of pull because if your hood is not 100% air tight (most aren't) you'll be venting smelly air.

As far as intake, you could either pull it from another room, or you could just pull it through a carbon filter in your room so it's exhausting the room and cooling your hood at the same time. Hope this helps.

so if i put a filter on the floor and put the fan on top of it run it through ducting through the hood out of a hole in the wall

i checked out your grow they look great for cfls! i 100% want the hood to be cooled i would put a clip fan or a box fan in the room separate from my inline

i would put the filter towards the top of your grow on the inside. duct from the filter to the inline fan and then to the light and out of the grow.
reason i do it that way is your sucking air from the top where the heat builds up inside and having the fan on that side of the light insures your fan isnt getting hit with that super hot air from the light.

I have to hang them somehow both the fan and filter idk how i would do that

i feel my rooms too small with wise 8x4x7.5

and i dont know how i would attach the duct to the fan i dont think it has a flange its just an opening i have a hydrofarm 400 cfm inline

well idk what your grow room is made out of or what it looks like. a couple hooks screwed into the roof and some heavy duty thick zip ties usually make hanging the filter a easy task. and unless i had a pic of the fan idk what to tell you. never seen a "inline" fan without a flange of some sort.

Here's how I do mine... I used duct tape to make it air tight. Passive intakes on left of tent.

You want to suck air through the carbon filter and cooltube... this creates a negative pressure in your room so the smell doesn't escape your grow room.

The sides of my tent suck in slightly as fresh air is pulled in through the passive intakes, circulated around the tent with two personal walmart 5" fans on the floor pointing straight up, and a 10" oscillating fan hanging in the front right corner. Then it is sucked through the carbon filter for deodorizing, then the cooltube to cool my light, then the 4" inline fan that is doing all the work, blowing out through a silencer, and then out of my tent.

My tent hold something like 75ft[SUP]3[/SUP] of air (a little over 2x4x7) and my fan is 190cfm... so I guess that means I theoretically replace all the air in the tent in less than 30 seconds... not sure if that's right.. but makes sense to me, maybe someone else knows better.

Also... put your carbon filter up high... that's where the hot skunky air pools.

sorry if im asking stupid questions ive done indoor a couple times but nothing special outdoors was more my thing i have a room i had my house redone and i told the guys to make me a walk in closet .i just looked at the fan it has a flange on both sides i was so stoned i forgot what the fan looked like . so if i can bungee cord the carbon filter to the ceiling with hooks and duct to my fan thats hanging on my wall through my hood out of the room

thank you bro im gunna do it exactly like this i just need to secure them i dont want them falling 7 feet on top of my girlllss
and how does that silencer work and is it worth it how much did u pay?

It was 60 bucks... I paid too much but I support my local shop. The intake has a 4" flange and it expands to 6" in the can. Inside it just has black egg crate foam. The exhaust flange is 3". It makes the wooshing sound of air running through the duct on the exhaust side of the silencer quiter. I exhaust through the wall into the next room and it sounds like the central heat or ac blowing. It does not dampen the sound of wind rushing through the duct before the silencer... and it does nothing to muffle the fan. It is worth it to me to invest in every ounce of stealth I can get. I plan to buy some insulated duct at some point and try that for further sound dampening and heat containment.
