Newb Growtent vent question

Hi,
I'm getting a 4x4 tent and was wondering about the ventilation.

I was planning on having one end of the duct inside the tent. The other end would be outside the tent elevated and connected to the fan pulling the air through the tent and blowing into a carbon scrubber. Basically no real twists in the ducting. Main reason on doing it outside is to limit the weight on the tent.

Does this sound like it would work well enough? If doing it inside..would a plastic grow tent be able to hold up a scrubber/fan/light?

thanks!

yeah man, i don't know anything about that particular brand of tent but if you buy a decent quality tent it should be expected to be strong enough so's you'd be able to hang a fan big enough to ventilate it.

...a 4 x 4 would only need something like a CanFan MaxFan 6" and that fan even has three speeds so almost like having a built-in speed controller. ...and the guy who sells you the fan will gladly recommend a carbon scrubber.

you should do a search for threads on tent growing and read up on the topic, see how others have dealt with the problems you aren't even thinking of 'cause the more you can think of ahead of time, the sooner you will succeed to a degree you'll be happy with.

if you need directions to some of the threads you'll need to read give a shout out and i'll pm them to you, it's just they are off site and i don't know what the policy is on that yet and i don't want to disrespect the house if it's against the TOU to post off site links.

...trouble is i'm new here too so i don't know where any of the good threads are in house yet.

A 6" is a lot of fan in a 4x4. Will you be using an A/C reflector in your tent? If so yu may want to rethink the location of your filter.
Can you build a small wooden structure to hang things on?

Also, before you do anything light that tent up and stand outside to find the light leaks.
Good luck, learn a lot, and have fun!

I have a tent. A little smaller than that I think, and the exhaust fan it came with was NOT enough to keep my 400WT light from burning my plants. Now, bear in mind it was the summer, and hot air all around. I "fixed" the problem by keeping the tent open and blowing a room fan into the tent and leaving my A/C running.

Now it's winter, and I use the same system, but without the A/C. I've gotten rid of the inline fan, as it was just using electricity and not doing more to keep heat under control than my Vornado room fan perched on top of a box. I have it directing air right to the tops of my plants (now 6" below the bulb) and it's doing great.

If I grow more than once or twice a year I will invest some $ in really fixing this problem. But for now the workaround works just fine.

So, just saying you may have to do some low-tech tweaking once you have your set up running.

thanks for all the responses already!

wanted to add some details:
-using a cheap iPower 600w dimmable hps/mh which may or may not be on 100% power.
-growing style: scrog/hard lst
-and I plan on having a fan at the bottom of the tent blowing up AND/OR a clamped fan on the inside blowing at the reflector/plants
-2 flowering plants will be inside the tent, (1 mother and 2 vegging outside it)

for the most part this tent is going to be for flowering, the mother/clones will be outside.. might have to get another tent if they get too smelly (smell isn't a huge factor though as its actually legal to grow 6 plants).

any advise would be awesome

did you see my fan recommendation? ...i know what i'm talking about, i have a 4 x 4 Secret Jardin AND i have a closet that is almost exactly 4 x 4 as well and i'm using the 6" CanFan Max in the closet, ...on it's lowest setting btw.

i know for a fact that that fan with the scrubber i'm using which is a Phresh btw, a brand i'd not recommend, ...anyway, that fan and scrubber would hang in my Secret Jardin no problem, shit, the tent right now has a 265cfm blower mounted to a piece of particle board and that piece of wood is heavy man, lol.

...so in your case, buy a quality fan asap so you can close up that tent and start getting the results you'd like now.

Ha! I know I need a quality fan -- and I will check out your recommendation. The fan that came with my tent is crap...and I'm now four weeks into flowering and the smell is getting a little intense in here. I have an amazing clean room air purifier going when the tent is open, and it's keeping the odor from drifting outside, but I do wonder what it will be like in 2 more weeks!

I'll check out the fan now. Thanks! (Sometimes all I need is a little push...):)
