SUPER! We're always looking to increase the knowledge base here at :leaf:W.O.H:leaf:.

Yeah, youre right it is a bore to tape the bottles. but hey. If going the duct-tape route, I would use a quality brand like gorilla tape if possible. Regular duct-tape works but IMO its best to spend the little extra money and do it proper.

Your plants sound delicious Shaggn. We definitely look forward to you getting started and sharing your Hempy experience. :peace::peace:
shaggin, one thing I did to cut down on time was to spray paint the bottoms with black spay paint designed for plastic. I had a box that fit 24 2 liters upside down. So it was nice and compact to spray paint in the garage. I only had to duct tape the sides which is FAR easier IMO. Welcome to WOH!

Dank, those were the exact links I had in mind for you however the pump timing is critical on some of these "floor-up" systems and takes a lot of experimentation to keep overflows from happening. Then there is the change in growth rate/feed amounts that cause more concentration later in the grow. Timers with a resolution of per/min can be expensive too as the one I bought for an aero-cloner. The gravity feed method I use (pg 25 here on WOH) is geared more for larger buckets since I use watering halo's and I only do two at a time so a "tee" acts as the manifold for splitting the flow between plants. The same thing could be had for multiple 2L if you could rig a manifold pipe up high at the bucket with multiple 1/4" feed tubes spaced tightly together at said manifold. Reason being, you need to build maximum pressure in the manifold pipe before flow into smaller tubing occurs so that all tubes flow evenly. Stands for the bucket could be an issue but hanging it is an alternative if not inside the tent. That's why I shelved my feed bucket outside the tent. Oh yeah...1/4" tubing doesn't work for beer bongs so you can't double duty the apparatus like I can with 1/2" tubing (LOL).
Jela10, thanks for pasting the link. I like what you are doing with the O ring watering. Basically, we all know its a pain to water a hempy sog, but it's not my primary concern for a drip system. There are times I have to go out of town on business and need to make sure the girls are fed. I also need to make sure that I'm not pulling them out to water them which causes the outside of my grow room to stink to high heaven (especially nearing 6 weeks flowering). Here's my idea for version 2 of my setup.

I have a under the bed shoe box container that I am using. It's 32" x 24" which is PERFECT for holding 18 2 liters. I can fit 2 of them in my tent, but its a little tight. So, I'm thinking of building a PVC frame to hold this flat plastic tray. I'd drill a hole in the bottom and have it feed a 5 gallon bucket or perhaps 2 5 gallon bucket to catch the overfeed. This would give me some buffer in fine tuning my automatic system. I can sacrifice some water and nutes being overused at the beginning while I am dialing the system in.

Moebius, I have YOU to thank for that tray. I saw you setup on page 1 and my mouth dropped to the floor in awe. I've never seen a more perfect setup for me and immediately fell in love with WOH. Since a 400 watt has a max penetration of 21", I can get away with having a table raised because my DR90 is 72" tall. I'm really eye balling a lumatek LK600 though at the moment. I just want to get them to about 29" tall to get a bigger yield.

Appreciate all the help in this design. You guys all have some pretty sweet systems and it's nice seeing how everyone gets the job done!

edit:

I'd like the PVC table to almost resemble a bakers rack. Well, just 1 level of a bakers rack. Imagine a couple rows on the inside to reinforce the tray. I have Rusty to thank for that idea :)

Wondering if it would be easier to run (10) 1 gallon buckets and just grow them taller and prune the bottom. This way the tops are far bigger, I can decrease the number of plants to water, and perhaps not sacrifice yield?

I was planning on using 1" rockwool to get my clones started. Does anyone else use this starter method and if so could you share any pros n cons with us. Also grabbed some 2" cubes to try them as well. I have some basket inserts for when the clones fresh roots hit the bottom of the rockwool, I then turn the mesh tray upside down so the roots can continue to grow into a make-shift rez for a boosted start. Either way I don't care if I have to water daily till the roots hit the rez of the hempy, Just want my babies/ladies to be healthy n happy!! In soil I really enjoyed rapid rooters and wonder if this may be the better option? All incite is muchly appreciated. :)

Thank you for that info DrDank. Did you have to spray a couple layers to make it light-proof? Kinda tight for coin atm, the black duck tape I use does 11 - 2L containers per roll, at a cost of $5 per roll. Adds some weight to the bottom of the container for more balance, but prolly won't help much when a (wet) 2oz lady is pullin it over lol.

I'm a Root Riot fan myself. The rockwool just seems to need a lot of work IMO.

I think you have a great attitude for this hobby dude, its great to have you on board. This thread has really benefited from ALL the contributors and long may it continue (1500+ posts so far).

Let me tell you, I'm just getting started. Ive done all my 'experimentation', found my pheno's and I'm really looking forward to running at maximum capacity. I'm just building up my stock of moms.

One thought on your PVC table - Try and use the proper PVC 'Solvent Cement' to glue the pieces. .. Its usually much cheaper than a 'super glue' type product but works much MUCH better. The inside cap usually has a small brush to apply the 'solvent cement' to the PVC.

There were several coats needed to ensure the bottoms were light proof, but I barely even used a full can of spray paint ($7) to cover all the bottoms with multiple coats. Keep in mind that the bottom is probably the hardest to tape properly. I used RUST-OLEUM (Plastic) to get the job done. I then just used the aluminum duct tape to handle the sides, but I might opt for Moebius's gorrila tape method since it does add to a more sturdy 2 liter.

I agree, Dank is Gung HO!! Very Cool! Glad I found this thread early or I would be spending days trying to catch up..

Let me just throw another angle at the PVC Glue.. I personally dont use any glue. After you push the PVC into the Fittings, its takes everything you got just to get them out,, Twisting and Pulling and Dropping a Nut! I leave the glue out of the equation and keep them modular,, So if they need to be tweeked a little, you can!

Ive done hundreds of clones in rockwool, no problem. You need to mist them a few times a day because they are not taking up fluid through the stem as they do in aero cloners. ... In Rockwool clones, you want the humidity nice and high. A heat pad or heated propagator help a lot, but careful not to keep it TOO HOT or they cook.

I did find that, if not long enough, rooted clones struggle to find their way to the res in 100% perlite. You'll defo want to get the roots as long as poss or as you correctly mentioned you'll be needing to water daily. The real growth really happens when the roots hit the res, so anything you can do it speed this up will benefit the plant.

If you plan to keep to flip your clones to 12/12 immediately, it's of added importance that roots hit the res ASAP, because they'll soon be ending the veg stage of growth and won't get any chance to produce much foliage.

Would you consider doing a main line prune if you grew larger hempy plants?

Shaggn - some don't worry about wrapping with tape; I took my ques from 420fied's SOG thread and simply spray the bottom of the 2l bottle below the drain hole. If you have some time, google "Come SOG with me" and read that entire thread over on 420mag forum. That was my inspiration to get into hempy.

I get 90%-100% success rate no matter what medium i'm cloning with. My concern was once I put them in the hempy. I'm doing this round with the basic set-up of 3-1 Per-Verm. Might slowly step it down to 100% Per but won't know till I get my feet wet :P How long in veg before the roots to hit the rez, approx? I'm not to restricted on height but don't want the Sat dom to be able to stretch to 5ft or more. I don't really think I will have to worry, figure it should take about 5 days for the roots to reach the rez, maybe a week tops.

Ahhh, you're right about not needing PVC glue for a table. My bad.

I had in my mind a recent project to glue the manifold in my aero cloner. It needs glue because the water pressure opens up the joins. I tried, Super Glue, Gorilla Glue and Hot glue. The best so far has been the PVC cement.

Best to keep it modular and glue free.

Watering Daily will get roots to the res in 5-7 days.. Watering daily til roots hit is the only way I do it. When I waited for the res to be dry, it took a good 2 weeks.

Roots will hit the res quicker with a Veg photoperiod than if you were to flip them to bloom. 5 days to a week is about right either ways. You'll really notice because the growth will just explode. ... just get them very well rooted in the cube first.

Hello woh family! I just took 220 successful cuttings. Raped the hell out of my mothers. I had to hire a local buddy to help me get the ezclone to work. I got a 120 site ezclone and two humidity domes full of clones. Imma wait a month before I clone again. my friend said according to his experience I can at least pull off 160 oz dry off my two rooms. I hope so. With 460 plants I hope I get that much. Thanks to everyone who helped. I'm glad I made Hempy buckets my choice of growing method for my first grow.

WOH 220 CUTTINGS... Go BIG or go home! .. great!

Smoothe, was wondering what happened with you buddy. You'll be super busy tending your garden but hopefully you'll keep us updated on your MoNsTeR grow. :joint:

Welshsmoker, that's great!

What size have you gone with? and what substrate? .... I realized from the other growers here that Hempys can work with any hydroponics substrate going.

Please let W.O.H know how you get on.

will get some pics up soon mate, they are in 100% perlite. i just got them in 1 litres at the moment while i sort out my new set up. then into 25 litre pots i think, they allready seem to be loving it.

Yeh hence why I needed a helper since my partner ain't doing shit. Next grow will be 3-4 times that but a perpetual grow. 10lbs a month can't beat that. I won't have a social life after this

well said Jela10. I think a majority of us are older and just appreciate the finer things in life. There's just a nice comfort about WOH. From page 1, I just felt that this place is for me.
